Natural Dyes for Plant Fibres with Jane Deane

Natural Dyes for Plant Fibres with Jane Deane

We are delighted to be hosting natural dye tutor Jane Deane for a second natural dye workshop, this time focusing on dyeing cellulose fibres.

Cellulose fibres (from plants, so cotton, linen, hemp, etc.) differ in their structure from protein fibres from animals. Therefore, they need a slightly different approach when dyeing. This applies to synthetic dyes as well as naturals.

This workshop will include dyeing with cotton, linen, ramie and hemp and appropriate mordants. We will be using at least two different natural dyes and using different mordants and modifiers to explore the full range of hues possible. You will leave with lots of samples and enough knowledge to have a go yourself. Expect this workshop to entice and excite with lots of “I wonder what will happen if . . .” questions.

The workshop will include all the materials that you need, and teas, coffees, lunch and cake

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 4 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
