Natural Dyeing from Local Plants

About the Course

Discover how to dye wool into a range of different colours using plants from your garden and the local area. You will look at the history of natural dyeing techniques and its evolution to the modern day process.

Each delegate will be given individual skeins of wool to use when learning the technical process of dyeing.

Bay Pond is a nature reserve with an abundance of flora. Here you will collect various found items to be used in the afternoon dyeing process.

Finally, everyone will thread cards identifying each variation used to take home as a future reference tool.

Paul Henry was raised in Belfast but now lives and runs his thriving kilt making business in Kingston-Upon-Thames. It is through this expertise that he gained his in-depth knowledge of the natural dyeing process. Using techniques dating back to medieval times he specialises in using local plants to produce beautifully coloured wool.
