About the Course

Set on the idyllic Kennet and Avon canal in Kintbury, Berkshire (location subject to change)
Immerse yourself into the historic tradition of natural dyeing combined with elements of modern botanical dyeing. Sophie will meet you in arranged meeting point in Kintbury and from there you will go for a short walk along the tow path to forage dye materials for the dye pots. Back at her narrowboat studio you will learn how to pretreat your fabric naturally using a typical method used in most modern botanical dyeing, make dyes from foraged material from the tow path and the history and process that goes into natural dyeing today.

What will the course cover:
- How to forage and ID correct dye material for the dye pot
- What different dye materials can be used
- Tannin rich dyes
- How to pretreat your fabric/yarn naturally
- Brief History
- How to make your dye
-How to dye your fabric/yarn
- How to alter dyes to make different colours
- Dye projects
- After care

You will dye a piece of fabric and skein of yarn and take away samples of fabric dyed in the sessions.

The course will run over two days, Saturday 6th April 10- 1pm and Saturday 13th April 10-1pm.
The cost of the course will be £100 for both sessions.

Natural dyeing with food waste - Saturday 2nd March 2019 10-2:30PM

Learn how to dye with food waste from your kitchen to create beautiful botanical dyes. In this day workshop we will dye pretreated fabric using food waste dyes. You will learn how to make the dyes, pretreat fabric naturally, the history of dyeing and the process to natural botanical dyeing. You will go away with enough knowledge to start natural dyeing in your own home.

Refreshments and all materials included, £65 for the day workshop, spaces are limited.

Bare in mind that there will be a short walk from your car to the moored boats location please consider foot ware according to weather.
