About the Course
An introduction to making sculptures with movement. We will explore the effect of various forces and mechanical devices such as cranks, levers, cams and gears and how they can be used to create mobiles, simple automata and puppets. Basic materials included but extra charge for materials used over and above the allocated material course fee. All levels welcome. This courses is technician supported.
By the end of the course you will be able to
Understand and practice the principles of making sculpture with movement
Explore various movement forces and mechanical devices such as cranks, levers, cams and gears
Create sculptures that incorporate moving elements or moving sculptures such as mobiles, simple automata and puppets using simple mechanisms
Learn and practice metal working skills like cutting, bending and welding to make your work
Explore different materials such as wood, textiles, metals, found objects and how they can be combined
Learn and develop good Health and safety workshop practice with all procedures and workshop machinery

In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.
None. This is a course for beginners and those wanting to explore how to incorporate movement in their sculptures.
An interest in art & design and sculpture is useful and if you intend to use the welding facilities it would be useful if you have attended the beginners
course in metal sculpture or at least a taster day.
