ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:
An exciting new workshop for 2019 with the hugely talented Julie Gibson.
Please see our website above for availability for this course, thank you.
Over our first coffee Julie will run through the plan for the day and the process of creating mosaic design, familiarizing you with the various tools and processes to be used over the day, the planning out and preparing the base. She brings with her many lovely pieces of ceramics and glass resources for you to use, as well as interesting finds like pebbles or beads etc plus some of her own work that she has brought along to help with inspiration.
Students will learn how to cut glass and design a pleasing balanced mosaic picture, using the lovely coloured pieces to best advantage. You may choose either abstract design or something stylised, such as a flower etc. and carefully assemble by hand your pieces over the day under Julie's watchful eye.
Finally, you'll be able to mount your unique mosaic 6x6" heart in a picture frame of 8x8", ready to hang on the wall. Such a piece would normally sell for about £80.
Whilst your first mosaic piece is setting, you can use various smaller pieces to create a beautiful heart pendant on a silver base in the colours of your choice. Each mosaic will be grouted, cleaned and polished to finish, before the larger is mounted in the frame. Everyone goes home with a finished piece of art ready to hang and their own piece of jewellery.
If hearts are not your thing, Julie will have other shapes available, please ask upon booking and check out her Etsy page to see available shapes.
Assembling small pieces of glass, ceramics or stone to create patterns for items and surfaces has been popular throughout civilisation. It is, after all, a perfect form of recycling and a real pleasure and satisfaction can be taken from transforming something that's hard to throw away but in its present form can no longer be used. Creating new ceramic pieces from your old broken glass and china and transforming it into something new and lovely, can be rewarding, absorbing and creative.
If you will be redeeming a CraftCourses gift voucher on this course, the voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
Welcome drinks : fresh coffee & home made biscuits, a lovely 2 course Aga lunch served in our farmhouse kitchen or outside in the Greystoke Cycle Cafe Tea Garden as soon as it's warm enough. To finish off the day, a freshly made Cream Tea (including Aga-baked scones, cream and jam).
Our days are considered special treats; many come back time and time again and often combine it with a short break to the Lake District.
We have been hosting and organising 'Quirky Workshops' since 2005 from our friendly family run Tea Garden on the northern fringes of the Lake District. All our tutors are carefully hand selected experts and professionals and many considered as leading nationally in their field.
Kindly note there will be a materials charge payable directly to the tutor on the day, if approx £25-30 which includes your materials, silver and frame for one framed heart and one silver pendant. Typically this course runs with 8 to 9 students. Suitable for all abilities inc. beginners.
