About the Course
You will make a mosaic plaque or heart on this course which will take place in Stromness Library on the winding main street which is full of quirky unique shops. I aim to provide an inspiring and uplifting workshop with fuel for ideas taken from the range of mosaic tesserae provided. Ideal for total beginners or the more experienced. For other mosaic projects please check out my other pages.
This course will run on demand for two or more, so if you have a friend you would like to do the course with please get in touch.
We aim to have a individually creative day, everyone will be encouraged to develop their own design. Inspiration can be drawn from items brought on the day, looking through the mosaic books, or developing an existing idea.
We will spend the day designing and sticking various tesserae to the board. Along the way learning about techniques and materials, different potential projects and how to cut and shape the tiles safely and tools needed.
I have been running mosaic workshops for over ten years, have a teaching qualification and have worked for Cartmel Adult Education as a mosaic tutor. Until recently I have sold my mosaics on Not on The High Street.
Please contact me for any further information you feel you may need about this workshop.

Loved this workshop ❤. I made a mosaic! Catherine is a top tutor. She was kind, patient, funny and friendly while teaching me her art. There was loads of choice of tressere. Could even break up some plates with a hammer if needed too. Thouroughly enjoyed it. Catherines mosaic workshop has gave me the confidence to attempt some projects I have always wanted to do. Cant recommend enough.

Excellent tuition and support given by Catherine, who was obviously experienced and enthusiastic in mosaics. All resources were provided and once we had chosen our designs and been shown what to do , we were able to continue independently asking for help if needed. It was a busy but very enjoyable day in a lovely interesting venue.

Thoroughly enjoyed the workshop. Left with the skills to know how to do the basics. Met interesting people although all engrossed in our work so did not engage too much. Catherine was very knowledgeable, hands-on and explained things in an easy to understand way as well as demonstrating practically. Huge variety of material to work with. Definitely recommend this workshop to others.

I would highly recommend Catherine's 1 day mosaic workshop to anyone wanting to have a go but feeling a bit nervous. As a beginner, Catherine made me feel really welcome and relaxed, providing the right pace for everyone in the group whatever their ability. She had vast array of materials for us to work with and we all had a fun, fabulous, creative day! I will be coming back for more!

I took a mosaic course on Saturday and was very impressed with Catherine our teacher, as a complete beginner I wasn't sure what to expect but was soon put at ease, Catherine had lots of idea's and lots of patience.
I made a sunflower amazingly it turned out ok, I am definately inspired to do more mosaic work and wished I lived nearer to Nelson and Catherine classes..
Having come all the way from Cumbria and not finding a class nearer to home, it was worth the drive.
Thank you very much for a really enjoyable day.

A very enjoyable day. Loved the hands on teaching and getting as messy as you like without having to worry about the furniture, which is the only way if you learn from a book! Learnt a lot about the different mosaic techniques and being able to experiment to find your own preferences is a definite advantage of doing the course. Catherine is very talented and knows her art inside out, plus a very nice lady. She made the class warm and friendly.

A truly fabulous creative day!
