Mosaic Making: beginners and improvers
Contact course provider
About the Course
Mosaic Making for beginners and improvers. This class runs every Tuesday evening 6.30-9pm, in the Crypt of St John on Bethnal Green. Newcomers will be encouraged to come with an idea in mind to help get them under way. I encourage students to sign up for 5 classes to begin with (costing £80) which will give them enough to make a small project. The classes are flexible: you can start at any time (as long as you have discussed it with me first) and you don't have to take them consecutively, so if you have to skip a class you don't miss out. As the class is a drop in, numbers vary, but there are usually between 5-8 people attending. Everyone works on different projects at different speeds, so you will be able to share in other people's creative process as they make their own mosaics.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. The voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
Tools and basic materials: a board, adhesive, grout and tiles. You are welcome to bring your own materials or something to mosaic onto. I also have a wide range of reference materials.
I've been coming to Alex's class for a couple of years and really enjoy it. Alex is a great tutor. She's excellent at teaching the technical side of mosaic making and is always on hand to help and advise. She has good ideas for designs and books to browse but also encourages you just to get on with your own creative ideas. There's no pressure but she makes sure everyone feels they are progressing and is very encouraging. The atmosphere in the group is friendly and not at all critical. All the tools and materials are provided and there is an excellent range of tile colours available. I find it an extremely relaxing class and a really good way to de-stress.

I've been attending Alex's course since the autumn. She makes it friendly & relaxing. Alex is always on hand with good ideas & useful tips; the small group means that everyone gets sufficient attention & she makes sure we're all always progressing with something! The venue is suitable, accessible & very close to transport. The drop in option is great for those of us who work irregular hours & so can't make every week.
