Mosaic fish making workshop

X

Description

Create a unique mosaic fish made with recycled china on this one day workshop with Jacky Cox from Mossy Mosaic Working with old china is a joy and a challenge. Each piece has its own special history and giving a new, re-imagined life, to a neglected plate, saucer or bowl is hugely satisfying. In this full day session you will design, make and grout your own hanging fish. A selection of china will be provided (along with your wooden fish) but you can also bring your own (please check in advance whether it will be suitable – thinner is preferable – thick china is very difficult to cut using the tools we have available). You might also want to bring some old buttons, beads or pieces of jewellery that can be incorporated into your design. In her own work Jacky uses a mix of materials, including glass, recycled china and sea-washed glass. She has been immersed in mosaic making for over 15 years and is looking forward to sharing this passion with you! This workshop is suitable for beginners, though some previous experience of cutting china or glass will be helpful. If you’ve already tried your hand at mosaic making, this could be the next stage in your mosaic adventure!

The Arienas Collective supports local artists and makers to earn a living by sharing their creative skills and passions with others through delivering workshops. The workshops are run from our mews home in the beautiful Georgian New Town of central Edinburgh. We believe in the wellbeing benefits of engaging in creative activity, and our class sizes are kept small so that you get the support you need to make the most of your time with us.
