About the Course
Back by popular demand! Come and enjoy a creative and relaxing day of mosaic making at Verulamium Museum. Surrounded by wonderful Roman mosaics inside the museum and at the hypocaust, create your own unique design to take home.
This full day workshop also includes a talk from one of our curators who will speak about the history of the mosaics that are homed at the museum.
Audrey likes her classes to be set at the pace of the individual. So whether you're completely new to working in mosaic, or whether you have done it before, you will have the support and guidance required for your needs. The day begins with refreshments and an introduction to all the materials available for you to use. This will include a wide range of glass, ceramic and stone tiles and also a selection of crockery and mixed media. A demonstration of how to use tile nippers will be given and each participant will be provided with the necessary tools for the tiles they are working with. Participants will be shown how to place and glue their tiles onto their boards.
Participants will be able to choose either a board, mirror or a pot to mosaic on the day. Audrey provides a variety of templates and ideas for mosaicing, but would encourage people to come along with an idea of what they'd like to create, so as to maximise their mosaicing time. Towards the end of the day Audrey will demonstrate how to grout a mosaic and participants then go on to grout their own artwork ready to take home. Should you not complete your artwork within the allocated time, Audrey will provide the grout for you to take away and complete at home.
The tutor Audrey has worked as a Community Artist for the past 17 years and specialised in mosaics 6 years ago. She teaches weekly class in schools, care homes and in the community as well as working on larger projects with a variety of Voluntary and Statutory organisations.

Thoroughly enjoyable and absorbing day. Audrey and her mother were encouraging and on hand with helpful advice so everyone could produce their best work. I was very happy with the finished result and I'm now keen to do more.
