About the Course

Monumental sculptural wood carving is an opportunity to get involved in carving large scale green timber. The course supports all levels of ability in a relaxed atmosphere. Your tutor Stephen Stockbridge trained as a sculptor and has been creating public artworks for over 30 years. The carving once completed is donated to a school or community space. Students are introduced to working with mallets chisels and gouges and look at tool selection. The principles of tool sharpening with demonstrations of other wood carving power tools including chainsaw and angle grinders. Also an opportunity to understand how to sling and move large work.

What's included in the price?

All materials and tools are provided, along with a constant stream of tea and biscuits. Good parking is available on site along with good transport links. There are many options for lunch on site, with a lovely little cafe overlooking the river Thames.
The studio is located on a 7 acre site of artist / designer studios, nearly 500 of them.

Stephen creates a wonderful atmosphere of group togetherness which produces a feeling of working as a team in a safe environment. Guidance, assistance and encouragement provided is there as and when required allowing scope for all involved to feel that they are contributing to a collective objective.
