About the Course
The course will teach students how to use and apply skills with regard to using a sewing machine, make and design their own project. Learn how to create fabric sculptures using Powertex a textile Hardener.The course content is as follows:- Sewing machine skills, applique, bag/cushion making, patchwork, Textile/Thread Art, Powertex Fabric Sculptures (Powertex is a textile Hardener)
The fee for this course could be wavered if on benefits or low income
To provide an introduction to various skills using a sewing machine, identifying different fabrics and textiles, being able to produce pieces of work from their skills.p
No experience necessary.
What topics will this course cover

What will it be like?
WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
1/ Design and make your own bag/cushion 2/ Applique a piece of work 3/ Create a quilted piece e.g. Small quilt 4/ Make a fabric sculpture using Powertex textile hardener 5/ design and make a canvas using thread art.
How will I know I'm making progress?
Through one to one discussion with the student as well as class discussions.
What else do I need to know, do or bring?
Please bring a basic sewing kit- ( Fabric cutting out scissors, tape measure,pins, sewing needles, Cotton fabric scraps to do applique for the first session if you have any). There may be an opportunity to go to the Quilt Village in Uttoxeter in early April if there is enough interest. The dates are 7th,8th and 9th. Cost is £8.00 per ticket plus travel expenses
