About the Course
Tutor: Josie Brown
Date & Time: Sat 7th Oct, 10am - 4pm,
Venue: Bingham Studio, New Brewery Arts
PRICE: £80 (£0.00 VAT)
An introduction to the traditional art of using metal wire to draw on a prepared surface, where it leaves a trace, similar to graphite pencils used today.
Although metalpoint drawing dates from antiquity, it was popular with Renaissance artists such as Botticelli, Leonardo and Dürer, but it is making a come-back as a particularly delicate and subtle drawing medium which offers an extraordinarily sensitive and refined finish. However, the practice is very exacting – forcing a careful and studied approach to artistic expression. The day will incorporate how to lay various different readily available grounds and techniques with metal wire for a range of outcomes. This is a little-known process for those who already draw or letter, it is not a how-to-draw workshop.
All abilities welcome!
Josie's loved hand lettering her whole life - the way words can dance and express meaning, offering our eyes a visual sense of feeling. She has taught lettering, lots of decorative processes and making books for many years - but is passionate about bringing ancient techniques to contemporary usage. Josie has also taught personal development in the community and brings aspects of achieving individual potential and self fulfillment to artistry with letters, paper and paint. She is also an accredited tutor for the Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society.
