The Classic Tailored Shirt - Tailoring for Beginners

The Gentleman's Wardrobe

Tailoring for Beginners - Creating your own bespoke tailored garment.

This 3 day workshop is aimed at those who want to learn the skills of shirt making.

Working with the patterns from The Gentleman's Wardrobe by Vanessa Mooncie, you will begin by altering the pattern to your own measurements and shape, and adding your own design touches if required. Then you will construct your own calico toile and then continue on to make and finish your own beautifully tailored finished garment in a crisp, white, cotton fabric.
This classic shirt features a yoke and curved hem, double buttoned cuff sleeves and a single chest pocket.

You will learn all the more advanced construction processes required in making a long sleeve classic style shirt, with button front, shirt collar and cuffs. With its crisp collar and perfectly turned out cuffs, your shirt will look as professional as the skills you've acquired.

All fabric, notions, equipment and use of machinery is provided. The fabric supplied is a crisp, white 100% cotton. If you would prefer to make the shirt in your own fabric choice, you will need to bring 2 metres.

This course is for beginners to tailoring but an intermediate level of sewing and knowledge of garment construction would be helpful.
