About the Course
3 day printmaking masterclass at the Chelsea Centre in London.
If you enjoy using colour in your printmaking or painting why not try this exciting multi-colour printing technique which allows you to print several colours from a single plate or image.
By rolling different viscosities of ink across the surfaces of the plate, the process combines the principles of relief and intaglio printing achieving exciting, unexpected colour blends and effects. It was pioneered by British printmaker Stanley William Hayter in the 1960’s.
You will work on two small images simultaneously learing to deep etch an image into zinc plates to achieve different levels in the surface. You will then learn to mix different viscosities of coloured inks, how to apply them to your image and print on to paper. Once you get printing the possibilities become exciting and experimental with many variations to explore.
Printing experience is helpful but beginners with an art background are welcome.
The studio in the Carlyle building (Room CG05) at the Chelsea Centre is light, spacious and well-equipped with specialist facilities for etching. There are 2 Rochat presses bed size 26 x 56 inches.
