This is a weekend course
Students with no previous experience of leather work will make your very own satchel from beautiful vegetable tanned russet leather. You will learn how to hand stitch leather and the basics of pattern cutting and design.
The course is designed to equip you with the basic skills necessary for you to continue developing the craft of leather work. The course will be taught using a hands on approach with advice and guidance throughout using a variety of teaching methods including demonstration, instructions and one-to-one, hands on guidance. You will be guided through the techniques used in making a beautiful satchel that along with your set of patterns is yours to keep.
Students will gain the following skills:
- Learn about different types of leathers and what they can be used for.
- Learn how to cut simple patterns.
- Learn about the basic hand tools used in leather work and what jobs they are used for
e.g. Setting rivets and press studs, hole punching, edge finishing, strap cutting, etc.
- Learn how to fit a buckle.
- Learn to saddle stitch leather with linen thread and 2 needles
- Learn to personalize or pattern leather by stamping
- Learn various techniques used in leather work.

These courses will take place in my workshop in the historic Market town of Frome, which has plenty of accommodation both in town and the surrounding villages.
Unfortunately, there is no disabled access. Courses will only run if sufficient numbers are booked onto any one course. I reserve the right to cancel a course up to 2 weeks before hand. I will endeavor to inform any participants before then of the situation.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.

Please note: Sewing leather can be very tough on the hands so if you have any problems with arthritis please contact me before booking to discuss. Disabled Access is limited at my Welshmill workshop.
