About the Course
Our Leather Craft Workshop Days are designed to be all about You…. getting hands on and making your very own Hand Stitched Leather Belt.
Our workshops are brand new to London and started in November 2017. All are geared for people with little or no experience of working with leather. You will learn Saddle Stitching vegetable tanned leathers of various thicknesses depending on the course you choose, with classes kept to a maximum of 4 people. (The Belt Making workshop is a maximum of 2 people)
We always have a choice of Belting leathers for you to choose from to make your own Belt.
We usually have at least 2 different Brown leathers, Black and also Red to choose from. You can also choose from a selection of new buckles and different coloured threads.
The most popular width belt made is a 1.5 inch width, perfect for jeans or casual wear. If you would like to make a different size width just let us know when booking and we’ll ensure we have the correct size buckles.
Our workshop courses are also a great introduction if you work with fabrics and want to know more about working with and combining leather with your materials, bags etc. We also provide you with an info pack giving details on where you can buy your own Leathers, tools and hardware if you wished to take your new skills forward at your own pace.
You’ll be fully guided throughout your session by our commercial Leathersmith, Richard Williamson the founder of RW Works. You'll be shown all about the various traditional leather working hand tools you’ll be using and encouraged to first practice using the various hand tools on off-cuts of leather to build your familiarity and confidence.
There is nothing better than the feeling of making your very own leather goods that you’ll love to use and last you for decades, ageing uniquely over the years.
You’ll be shown how to cut, mark and chisel your stitching holes, burnish your edges, set any hardware, wax your thread, and finally hand stitch your item using a traditional Saddle Stitch for strength, one length of thread with a needle at each end.
Don’t worry at all if you’re unfamiliar with any of the above as you’ll be given demo’s of each stage and you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how quickly you’ll pick it up.
We look forward to seeing you on the day and if you can arrive 5 minutes prior to your course start time, that’d be perfect.
Parking is free in the surrounding roads and nearest public transport is Hanwell Railway Station, or Ealing Broadway and Boston Manor Tube Stations.

I received this workshop day as a Christmas present. I found it very interesting to find out how to work, cut, stitch and finish the leather. As well as finishing up with a belt of my own, it was really nice to meet Richard who teaches the course, he has a clear passion for the craft and is very good at explaining the processes involved.
Over all I would highly recommend this class.

I actually did the Small Leather Item course where you make a card wallet (there isn't a place to review that one yet so I am reviewing it here). Richard was great, a really down to earth guy who starts the experience with a lesson on the variety of tanning methods and cuts of leather over a cup of tea. After that we moved onto making the item. Throughout he would explain how the tools work, what they are for and he gets you to be very hands on. It was excellent.
I was able to select my prefered leather, thread, debosing stamps (initials & logo) and he then guided me through the processes of making the item. I made a card holder that is now my daily travel card wallet. I'm very pleased with the results. I did all the cutting, punchering, burnishing, stitching, debosing, etc myself under his experienced eye. He gets you to experience everything and is extremely patient.
I would recommend this to anyone, specially those with an interest in working with leather or just learning about the craft.

Arrived and was immediately offered a cup of tea with a selection of biscuits.
Enjoyed the tea while having an in-depth discussion about the different types of leather and dyeing techniques.
Then it was belt making time; learning how to cut and stitch leather, practising on small scraps before committing to the actual belt, all under the careful supervision of Richard.
Every question was answered, every detail explained and at every step I was given the time to get it right and walk away with my own handcrafted belt.
If you want to try leathercraft for the first time, I can highly recommend Richards' class. It's friendly, relaxed, informative and well structured.

A really fun day.
Richard is lovely and knowledgable.
Did this course to celebrate mine and my husband’s 3rd (leather) wedding anniversary. I made a leather bracelet and my husband a belt.
His workshop is at the back of his house and he’ll offer you drinks and biscuits.
Item made look really professional

Richard was very patient and knowledgeable man.
My fellow trainee and I made two fab leather belts.
I made a few errors but Richard helped to correct them so I ended the session with a beautiful leather belt that I can be proud of.
Included coffee and biscuits too!

The course was fantastic, Richard was extremely patient and very happy to answer any questions I had. I felt that I came away with a new set of skills and a good understanding of the basics. The course was very good value and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. My belt is beautiful and I will have it forever. I will be back to try another workshop.

I had a really enjoyable day on the workshop and made my own belt, what more can I say, a really good day!
Working with vegetable tanned leather was really interesting, and burnishing the edges was not something I knew about, and also learnt a lot about whats involved in creating a special design belt. Thanks for all the guidance Richard. I love my belt!
