Learn how to make traditional, cold-pressed soap.
Soap-making, using the saponification of natural oils, is an age-old tradition. We will firstly discuss the properties of different types of oils and the use of essential oils for fragrance. This will be followed by a demonstration of how to make a batch of cold-pressed soap. These will be made from a variety of quality vegetable and essential oils (no palm oil, no preservatives, parabens or SLS). You will then make your own batch (approx. 12 soaps) to take home and enjoy!
If you will be redeeming a CraftCourses gift voucher on this course, the voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
All ingredients and utensils will be provided.
You will be provided with moulds made from old cartons etc, or you can borrow/buy silicone moulds on the day.
Soap is usually ready to be transported carefully home at the end of the session, but this can depend on conditions on the day. If necessary, your batch can be collected when convenient.
Due to Health and Safety precautions we are limiting class sizes to 4 people, for all of our sessions, for the time being.
PPE (face shields, gloves and aprons) and hand sanitiser will be provided for all of our workshops (PPE is always essential anyway for soap making due to the risk of spillage of caustic ingredients).
Unfortunately we will not be able to offer our usual refreshments at this time, but you are welcome to bring your own thermos or drinking bottles.
All participants will take home a set of instructions and there will also be an opportunity to purchase a soap making ingredients kit for £20 to make more soap at home.
