Atelier Beside the Sea is excited to announce an exclusive teaching partnership with Diana Upridge and DOLLY Clothing. Bringing her ever popular ‘kit classes’ to Brighton, you can now learn how to make a complete garment and gain new confidence in your sewing abilities.
The DOLLY Apron Dress wraps around the body and fastens with a ribbon tie that sits on the hip. Wide straps cross over at the back and, because we love a pocket, we’ve put two good sized patch pockets at the front.
Pair your Apron Dress with a long-sleeved top in winter, a shirt in spring and autumn and slip T-shirt in summertime. It’s the comfiest, most versatile dress ever and we hope you wear it for years to come!
DOLLY’s easyfit sizing celebrates real bodies. It’s all about a flattering fit and feeling good. And if standard dress sizes don’t always work for you, our kits can be tweaked to fit every inch of your gorgeous self.
What you will learn:
- How to find your way around a sewing machine from threading it up to getting to know what it's capable of.
- A variety of seams and finishes, and suitability to cloth and garment.
- Stitching curved seams and corners
- Making darts, pleats and gathers
- Hemming including double fold hem and blind hemming.
- Making and applying bias binding and piping
- How to put in a zip and make buttonholes
The session will start with a brief introduction to our sewing machines. If you are not familiar with using a domestic sewing machine, we recommend you join Diana on her Introduction to Sewing course first.
Diana Uprichard is the founder of Dolly Clothing. An experienced designer, seamstress and teacher, Diana believes that sewing is nourishment for the soul.
From the Dolly studio in central Lewes, Diana runs sewing courses for adults, provides a bespoke alteration service and designs her own sustainable clothing collection. When she’s not in the studio, Diana can be found teaching school children how to express their creativity through the art of sewing.
A dedicated campaigner for sustainable fashion, Diana leads the Dolly team in awareness-raising campaigns and events. Designed to inform and inspire, Dolly’s events explore why our clothes are costing the earth and what we can each do to be the change.
Diana’s vision for a sustainable fashion future is built on her belief that there’s a wealth of power in a tiny needle and thread.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
Refreshments will be available during the class.
You will be provided with a DOLLY kit for this class which is a sustainable way to make garments. Each piece has been pattern cut from deadstock which means no fabrics have been manufactured for your garment.
