About the Course

On this 3 day course (which runs on Saturday 2nd, Sunday 3rd & Saturday 9th of February), you will make a simple skirt - length of which is your choosing - and embellish it to create something unique, utilising a variety techniques and trimmings. It can be simple and minimal with beautiful top-stitching detail and innovative fastenings or have a more ornate finish, employing any number of decorative features. e.g machine embroidery, applique, fabric manipulation, ruffles, rosettes, buttons & beads. You will learn about different types of thread and methods of embellishment that you can apply to your garment. You will have the opportunity to make samples of the all the techniques that we cover, even if you don't use them all on your finished garment. Suitable for beginners & those with intermediate/advanced experience. Bring sketches and/or photos of your ideas if you have collected some already, or just come ready to experiment and have fun learning new sewing skills. Negotiate outcomes with your Tutor depending on prior experience.

By the end of the course you will be able to
construct a skirt from a commercial pattern
complete a range of embellishment technique samples
use the tools safely and correctly
apply some embellishment to the finished garment
use the sewing machine safely and correctly
