During the day you will create a Traditional Tana Lawn Cotton Tie. You will learn the techniques used for cutting out, lining and interlining a tie. Tana lawn cotton is a lovely fabric to work with and comes in many gorgeous colours and designs. You have the choice to bring your own fabric or choose from a selection that Kate will have with her. There will be an extra charge for buying fabric on the day (see below). The finished tie will be 145cm. long.
Kate says: I started making Liberty print ties for my husband. His old ones from Liberty were wearing out and Liberty no longer made ties in Tana Lawn cotton. I remembered my grandmother in the 1960s making ties for the men in her life, so thought I’d give it a go! One Christmas I made ties for my husband, sons, brother and brother-in-law. They all reported back that, whenever they wore them, they always received compliments and were asked where the ties came from. Next I made a few to sell to friends, followed by some charity fairs and Love from Kate has grown from there.
