About the Course
James Mursell, professional Windsor chair maker, runs these courses from his large and spacious workshop, on his farm in West Sussex. The course is 5 days long (Monday to Friday) and the days begin at 0830 and finish at 1800 (except Friday around 1600).
All students can expect to take home a completed chair at the end of the course. The course is suitable for both complete woodworking novices and experienced woodworkers. Everyone will be challenged and will succeed! James has taught chairmaking for the past 14 years and to date everyone has completed their chair.
Virtually all the work is done with hand tools and a very wide range of techniques will be used throughout the week. Green wood working will be introduced, along with steam bending, shaving, shaping and drilling lots of holes at different angles.
We break for: coffee in the morning, lunch and tea. We will feed you very well and it is most unlikely that you will go home lighter than when you arrived.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
The course fee includes everything to make a complete chair. All the tools are provided, along with materials and we will feed you very well during each day. The only possible extra cost is if you choose an alternative seat wood (£40).
Accommodation is not included. We have two units of accommodation onsite and there is a list of alternative local accommodation on my website.
There is a train station about 3.5 miles away.
Course dates are flexible; please get in touch for the next available date.
