Machine Embroidery is now such a popular art form and can be done in so many different ways. Rather than make one finished piece and learn one technique, Julie aims to show you many ways that machine embroidery can be used with plenty of examples to inspire you. Suitable for beginners, sometimes even easier, as you have to forget everything you’ve previously learned about precision and just go with the flow. You will need to bring your own sewing machine, as long as you can drop the feed and have an embroidery foot. Just bring yourself and your sense of humour, guaranteed to result in excited squeals from time to time! At the end of the day you will take away a sampler of various techniques.
Learn how to:
•Drop the feed on your machine and “draw” using the thread
•Stitch with freedom- anywhere, any direction
•Apply cut fabrics onto a background
•Add paint successfully, without the bleed
•Use transfer pens
•Write words freehand
•Embroider using paper and card
•Be inspired to make your own designs and see how versatile and truly addictive this art form really is
Julie has taught for over 30 years and is a total Stitchaholic!
The machine embroidery courses are held at her garden studio in Birlingahm, near Pershore in Worcester(WR10 3AF). from 10-4pm. There is parking and refreshments available throughout the session.
What's included in the price?
All materials and tools are provided, including fabric, card, paint etc. You will also use a hoop which can be borrowed for the day. Bring your own machine with instruction manuel and a bobbin or two full of dark thread. Refreshments are included throughout the day, but you will need to bring a packed lunch.
I had an amazing day doing free motion machine embroidery at Julie's beautiful studio. I had tried to teach myself before and got nowhere. Julie broke it down into simple, confidence building steps. Lots of top tips and advice regarding colour, fabric, composition, and of course, stitching. The end results were just beyond expectation. I caught a glimpse of some work on the table after returning from washing my hands, and thought 'oh that's lovely'. It was such a shock to realise it was my piece of work I had seen across the table.
I left, wanting to go back again for another of the courses, but also feeling confident to do what I had learned again, at home.
Julie is generous with her knowledge and advice and the lemon cake was gorgeous too!
I enjoyed my first class last week. Julie (and her gallant husband), began with a very warm welcome to their home and stunning studio. Such a beautiful setting just added to the relaxed friendly atmosphere she created.
Very knowledgable and informative, I was able to produce a quite satisfactory piece of work.
I returned home thoroughly inspired and eager to start my own projects.
I have already booked my next class.
I have no hesitation in recommending Julie to anyone wanting to try new techniques.
A lovely inspirational day - keep looking at my machine embroidery sampler today and getting a real feel good factor from having created something I like! Julie's studio is beautiful, inspiring to work in and Julie is a great teacher, encouraging and helpful, sharing so many of her skills and ideas readily. I spent the day with such lovely fellow machinists. Julie is a natural host and provided delicious sweet treats to go with regular tea breaks. Lunch outside chatting and taking in the beautiful peaceful views was the icing on the cake. Thank you also to Julie's husband who met me in the car park to carry my machine in - much appreciated. We worked hard and made the most of the workshop opportunities. Highly recommend.
This is the second workshop I have done with Julie, what better recommendation is there than that. She is so patient and talented and her studio is beautiful, a lovely environment to learn this stitching technique. An absolute beginner at machine embroidery I came away with a completed piece that I was surprised had been done by me. Highly recommended.
Have just spent a wonderful day surrounded by threads, fabric, patterns, paint, cake, tea, good company, lovely ideas , creativity and inspiration! What an amazing day my mum and I had with Julie at Tigley Textiles. We learned so much in such a short time and Julie made the whole thing fun and relaxed aswell as being informative. She was so generous with her time, knowledge and all of the lovely materials, lace, buttons, paints...the list is endless. Her enthusiasm for sewing is infectious as both mum and I can't wait for our next course with her. Thank you so much Julie!
Had a very enjoyable day and learnt lots of new skills. Julie is a very able teacher and taught lots of techniques in a short time. Keen and excited to develop my own designs now! Thanks for a great day.
A thoroughly enjoyable day. Started with no experience if machine embroidery but with great tuition, guidance and encouragement from Julie was soon creating my first quirky embroidery picture. I came away having learnt so much more than I expected and have some of Julie's enthusiasm for continuing and developing this technique. Once again .... Thanks Julie.
I m still floating from a wonderful day spent in Trumpet with Julie and five other co -machine embroiderers .She gently took us through the various stages of producing a not - half - bad sampler which l feel quite proud of.Above everything,we had a stimulating day and l feel confident that l can produce more work adding my own quirks. It really has kick -started a new interest and much more exciting than just making curtains for my home. Thanks Julie . P. S. Lovely homemade food .
Just spent a totally happy day playing with machine embroidery and paints at the Trumpet tearooms near Ledbury. Lots of help and inspiration from a very skilled teacher. Thanks for sending me on a novel search for my own exploration of this exciting new style of textile fun.
Great food too!

Have done a couple of courses now with Julie and will definitely be returning for more. Her knowledge and style of teaching is not only relaxed but encouraging and inspiring. Her studio is set in wonderful country side and the textile work displayed is truly wonderful.
What a thoroughly enjoyable day we had. Thank you Julie for being so patient and helping us to explore new ideas and techniques My head is spinning with possibilities and plans are already in place for taking this addictive craft further. The nut slices were fab too!
We spent a super afternoon with Julie creating a machine embroidered sampler. Julie was endlessly patient and an excellent teacher. The environment is very cosy and welcoming with beautiful examples of work everywhere you look. I would recommend this to anyone.
Had a wonderful day on the machine embroidery course and felt really inspired and empowered. Lovely welcoming environment and Julie is an excellent teacher. Small numbers meant everyone could see the demonstrations easily. It was amazing that we all ended with a piece of work so different from others although we used the same templates and techniques. I shall definitely return to the project sessions. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and talents Julie x
Really enjoyable afternoon with Julie. She is an excellent teacher and her enthusiasm inspired us all. Small class meant clear demonstrations and lots of individual attention. Julie's studio is beautiful and a wonderful place to work. Felt a sense of achievement at the end and met some lovely people. Thank you Julie. Liz x
Thoroughly enjoyed this workshop and would highly recommend. Could have stayed in Julie's lovely studio for hours on end. I am a total novice and Julie is such a brilliant teacher. She is very open about her techniques and her work is amazing. I've come away from the workshop with a piece of work that I didn't think I could do and feel really happy. My head is buzzing with ideas. Absolutely loved it and met some lovely ladies too. Thank you so much Julie xx
Returned home yesterday full of happiness from the beginners machine embroidery workshop taught by the lovely Julie Brand in her beautiful studio in Worcestershire. What an inspiration she is! We each came away with our own version of her unique style of embroidered/painted flowers, birds, butterflies, seed-heads and adornments etc ably tutored and demonstrated by Julie in a relaxed and friendly environment. If you come to one of her classes with even just a glimmer of enthusiasm and energy, Julie will send you home with a deep flame of inspiration to tackle your own 'grand design' if the mood takes you. Thank you Julie x
