About the Course

During this 3 and a half hour class you will be making your own Hoop Embroidery Picture featuring your choice of bird, animal or flower design. The workshop focusses on using free-motion machine embroidery but you will also have the opportunity to use hand embroidery, appliqué and mixed media techniques to create your picture. You are free to bring your own design ideas to develop on the day, or use templates and design ideas that I’ll have available for you. The workshop is suitable both for beginners and those with more experience on their sewing machine and using free-motion machine embroidery. My aim is to create a friendly and fun learning environment and the small class size (maximum of 4 people) means that there is a lot of opportunity for one-to-one tuition and support if you are feeling nervous about the process.

This class runs on specific dates throughout the year (see website link for details) and is also bookable on demand either as a one-to-one session or group session for up to 4 people.

Please contact me through my website or email to book a date or if you require further information.

Other courses also available.

Sue Nicholls is an exhibiting fine art textile artist who lives in East Hertfordshire. Her work has featured in The Embroiderer's Guild 'Stitch Magazine' and she sells and exhibits her work through galleries and fairs.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

What's included in the price?

The Workshop includes light refreshments (tea, coffee, cake and biscuits) an embroidery hoop to frame your picture and a small supply of fabrics, embellishments and threads for you to use on the day.

A great course in a lovely cosy and inspiring environment. Sue is a good teacher, very encouraging and patient. I came away with a super framed embroidery and equiped with lots of knowledge to take this new craft further. I thoroughly recommend this course and Sue's work.

Sue was quick to establish my level of experience and what I wanted from the course. The garden studio is a perfect workspace with all materials readily to hand. I was delighted to finish some appliqué autumn leaves and have already booked another class. A lovely way to spend a morning!
