About the Course
Jeannie Clarke is a practicing artist living and teaching in the Nottingham Area. Since Leaving St Martins School of art she has continued with her own creative practice, as well as working professionally within the arts and education.
During this class you will learn how to transform your own drawn or found images into a design for repeat pattern textile printing. Fabric samples will be available for you to print onto but you are welcome to bring your own.
We will start the workshop with a description of the basic tools used to cut a design into soft linoleum. This will be followed by a short demonstration on how cut your design plate safely. You will then be given the opportunity to practice your cutting and mark-making skills. Once you feel comfortable about cutting the linoleum we will explore how to develop your image and transfer it onto the lino-leum and prepare fabric ready for printing to take place.
Don’t worry if you have never taken part in a printmaking session before. You will love it, have fun, and find your feet quickly. You will be supported and guided through each stage of the creative process to build your understanding and confi-dence.
By the end of the day you will have your lino plate to take home, along with some wonderful prints. These can be later framed or sewn into textile items –cushions for example.
We will be using Caligo safe wash inks as whilst wet the ink can be washed out with soap and water. However, once the Caligo ink is completely dry your sample can be washed and the image will stay fixed. With this in mind always test the colourfastness of you textile sample before washing.
The course focuses on fun and friendly creativity with lots of support and suggestions from an experienced artist an ex student of St Martins School of Art. Images will be provided that you can work from or you can bring your own research.
