About the Course

Come and get your hands inky and your creativity flowing in a friendly, artistic environment! This taster session will introduce you to the technique of linocut, a form of ‘relief’ or ‘block’ printing, where a lino block is cut into using specialist tools or ‘gouges’, and a print is taken from the surface. Learners will be guided through the process of cutting, inking and printing a lino block, using specialist tools, inks, and our large Imperial platen press.

Our new taster sessions offer an introduction to some of the key printmaking techniques offered and practiced here at WYPW, and a glimpse into the processes involved in creating hand-made prints. You will be guided and encouraged by experienced artists who use printmaking in their own art practice, in a professionally equipped workshop setting.

Experience level
Taster sessions are designed for people who have little or no prior knowledge or experience of printmaking, but are also great for those who want to a refresher of a particular technique.

Your tutor
Neil Anderson worked in the commercial printing industry for over 25 years, and believes in learning the basics thoroughly, then applying those in any way that fits with your personality and artistic ambitions. “There are no rules, printmaking is fundamentally the transferring of ink from one surface to another – you can be very precise, or equally treat it in a very loose and free way. The main thing is that you learn, have fun and enjoy discovering the huge potential of printmaking.”

What’s included?
All course prices include basic materials such as inks, paper, tools and equipment. Other materials and printmaking papers will be available to buy during the course if you would like to try something a bit different, or take some materials home to try out.

What’s next?
After attending a taster session in monoprint, drypoint or linocut, you will be able to join WYPW as a member to continue to practice the skills you have learned. Screen printing and etching are processes which involve a bit more practice, so we would advise that learners attend a further course in these techniques before joining us as a member.

Cancellations and refunds
If you cancel your booking more than three weeks prior to the course start date, you will be eligible for a refund, minus a 5% admin fee. (Admin fee does not apply for Printmaker’s Toolkit Sessions).

We regret that we cannot offer refunds for cancellations made less than three weeks before the course start date. At this point we have already started making preparations including ordering materials and equipment, and it is less likely that we will be able to fill your place.

We cannot give refunds for failed attendance due to sickness or external circumstances.

Transfers
If you would like to transfer to another course, we can do this free of charge providing you let us know three weeks prior to the course start date.

Bookings cannot be transferred with less than three week’s notice, however in the event that you are unable to attend on the day, bookings can be transferred to another person. In this case please inform us as far in advance as possible so that we can update the booking.

Cancellation by WYPW
West Yorkshire Print Workshop reserves the right to cancel or postpone courses. If this happens we will endeavour to give at least a week’s notice, and full refunds will be given.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
