Special workshop at the beautiful Halpern Studio above Cafe Nucleus, Rochester High Street, as part of the Medway Print Festival. This is a 2.5 hour beginners workshop for up to 4 people.
No printmaking experience required, and people of all ages and artistic abilities are welcome. Even if you think you can't draw, you WILL be able to print! All materials will be provided to get you printing on the day. You will have access to a variety of professional carving tools, handprinting tools, and a printing press.
You will be working one or two postcard-size (A6) black & white projects, and I will guide you through all the steps from designing, transferring, carving, proofing, printing and clean-up. You will have the opportunity to ask all the questions you like, in a friendly environment. Please bring any sketches and ideas, and there will also be pictures and books available for inspiration.
You will leave with a new set of skills and several prints of your own, and hopefully your experience of a range of printmaking tools will give you a good idea of the equipment you might want if you'd like to carry on printing at home. [*I will not provide any tools or equipment to take home*]
The workshop will take place in central Rochester (at the bridge end of the High Street) within walking distance of Strood and Rochester railway stations. There are plenty pf public car parks in the area, and Rochester is well served by local buses.
These courses are taught by printmaker Judith Westrup, who usually teaches printmaking in her home studio in Maidstone but has been invited to teach at the Halpern Studios for Medway Print Festival.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
All course materials are provided.
Please feel free to bring your own sketches.
Participants are welcome to place their own drinks orders with Cafe Nucleus during the workshop.
2½ hours (10:00am to 12:30pm)
