Lino Cutting and Printing for Beginners and Rusty Printmakers - Bonsall Arts Trail.

I had such a fab day exploring Lino cutting with Liz. She is an amazing and patient teacher and was very well prepared and professional. She gave great advice about buying tools and equipment which was much appreciated. We came away with some lovely art work and loads of inspiration. I joined Liz's course as a complete beginner and left with a lovely piece that I was really proud of. The studio is a beautiful and relaxing space to escape to and learn something new.

Liz taught our small group with her expertise, talent and intuition and I felt like I had the tools, space and new skills to try something for myself.

It was a great day and I definitely want to continue this new craft.

My friend and I had a marvellous day making linocuts with Liz. As more or less novices the day was pitched perfectly to help us make our first Lino prints. Everything we needed was provided and the studio is ideal with lots of space. Liz was very encouraging and gave interesting hints and tips on how we could develop our ideas. We were amazed that we came home with so many different prints. The day flew by. We’re already looking to get equipped to do more at home and hope to be back for another course sometime.

We had a fantastic day out with Liz. Having done a little lino cutting in the past but wanting to push it so much further now, Liz taught us some tricks of the trade, made printing and colour mixing non onerous and fun and loosened us up to try new things and techniques from what we had been taught previously. The setting was fabulous, the small group meant we learnt so much from Liz and even with bad weather the views were amazing. Thanks Liz, you have reinspired us on lino cutting and already Nic has sold a piece :-)

I came away from the course feeling highly inspired to continue printmaking, using the techniques we had experimented with. Liz got us printing very quickly and we came away with a great variety of prints created during the day.

Decided to have some me time, and saw an advert for the printmaking course. I’ve had a lovely day, getting nice and messy with paint, and have several prints to take home, having mastered basic stamp making and then a Lino cut.
Liz was very welcoming and on hand to give advice and suggestions. I’ll definitely do another course, maybe even bring a friend!

We were allowed to have fun and use all different colours (paper, paints and inks) to see the different effects.

Yesterday I was part of a Printing Workshop. What a wonderful day, it all passed far too quickly. Lots to learn, lots to do. Chance to experiment too. I'm inspired to continue with this new found skill, and have already ordered some basic equipment so that I can get going.
Liz is a wonderful host, and she provided excellent tuition, also giving support and ideas. We felt Covid safe, and we were very comfortable.

From the moment we walked up the drive we felt welcomed. The day was well paced and well organised. The studio is in a ideal location, one couldn't help but feel relaxed and inspired by the beautiful surroundings. Liz's obvious passion for sharing her skills and knowledge enabled, even a complete beginner like myself, to produce a piece of art that I was proud of. Since returning home I have ordered some essential materials and am looking forward to creating more designs - thank you Liz for giving me a great basis of understanding from which I can continue my journey of discovery in this art form. I would definitely recommend this workshop and can't wait to return.

This was my second course at the slipper studio. I enjoyed the blind embossing course so much that I decided to book a Lino cutting course for my daughter as a Christmas present. Liz is a fantastic teacher and makes you feel very welcome in her beautiful studio. The course had to be postponed due to snow but Liz was very flexible and we agreed a new date. Best Christmas present ever and some great prints made. Thanks Liz we lived our day with you and Bert 😻.

Attended my second workshop at Liz Welby's beautiful studio in the Peak District. The workshop was excellent, geared to my interests, all equipment and materials were ready and available and the workshop felt well managed around COVID 19 safety. Liz is an excellent teacher and encouraging throughout

Such a wonderful day of blind embossing at the Slipper Studio, Liz is a great teacher, patient and informative. The setting and facilities were excellent and I learnt (and made) a lot with Liz's help and instruction. The day was relaxed and very welcoming, we went at our own pace. The tea and coffee was excellent and flowed freely and overall the experience was relaxing, informative and very enjoyable. So much so I've booked again already for another workshop.

I have attended Liz’s workshops before. I love being creative but lack confidence. Liz always makes the experience accessible and fun. What’s more, the outcome is always better than I expected. Today I am very proud of ‘Chubby Owl 🦉’, which is all thanks to Liz and my fellow attendee Claire, who brought some amazing owl sketches to fire my imagination. I would recommend this course as a great one to start with if you’ve not done one before

Liz is a really excellent facilitator who was very welcoming and made sure we all felt comfortable in her lovely studio. All very covid safe. The course was just the right length and pace so as to accommodate printing novices like me and also my friend who had a little more exprience. Preparation was good, so I had everything I needed, although I'd prepared some images on Pinterest and it's worth noting phone signal is not great so bring printed images or photographs stored on your device that don't rely on being online. It was nice to have a 'tech break' in fact. All resources provided were of high quality and Liz gave many tips throughout the process that will be easy to remember and follow at home. I look forward to more printing at home and hopefully another day in the studio soon.

The workshop included well structured, clear instructions regarding the processes of blind embossing. Liz allowed each persons to express their individuality and gave support as and when needed throughout . Great for those new to printmaking or the more experienced.
Everyone went away with something they felt happy with having produced .

I was a total beginner . We tried out the tools and linos to see how they worked , you could really feel when you went too deep. I chose a fish design and Liz suggested all sorts of interesting ideas, I would never have. It was a great and informative class and I can’t wait to try some more! Once I’ve moved house I’m buying a kit. It was a lovely atmosphere and the people I did the class with were so enthusiastic . Despite all the Covid restrictions , we still had a great time and it was fascinating to see each other’s very different ideas and prints. Can’t recommend the course enough. Brilliant! I’ve recommended it to friends.

I really enjoyed my rainy day in Liz’s light and airy studio. Liz is an enthusiastic and encouraging teacher who provided plenty of tuition, inspiration and quality materials as well as numerous cups of tea. Both my sister and I thoroughly enjoyed the day and the chance to stretch our creative muscles. Thank you!

Time stopped! The day whizzed by but I achieved so much. Liz is an excellent teacher, very generous with her attention and willingness to share her print makers secrets. I came away with prints I am pleased with and the confidence to keep going no make even better ones.

Liz made sure that this workshop provided plenty of time to learn lino cutting techniques and use it to print on fabric. I was so impressed to go home with so many finished pieces including a fabulous tea-towel and some tote bags, plus gift tags and gift paper all made with my very own fair hands!
I have done lino cutting with Liz before but printing on fabric was a new venture for me and well worth learning this extra step.
Liz gave lots of tips about design,colour and inks, which was really helpful, and I loved the results. The Slipper Studio is a real haven for anyone who wants a creative break, I will certainly be going back.

I spend such an enjoyable day with Liz learning about experimental printing techniques. I was a little worried at first that I might not be able to create design that I liked or execute the printing well enough but I needn't have worried as Liz soon put me at ease and her excellent preparation meant that there was plenty of inspiration to start me off.

Liz took me gently through mark making and various printing techniques in logical and achievable steps interspersed with lovely coffee and biscuits in airy and inspirational surroundings...and Bert the cat is simply adorable!

By the end of the day I left the Slipper Studio with an arm full of beautiful prints, a smile on my face and a mind full of ideas for future projects at home. Thank you Liz!

Liz is very skillfull and most of all a lovely and friendly person. Her workshop was so well organised. We were provided with plenty of materials, tools and tutoring. Her studio is a beautifull and cosy place, located in picturesque surroundings. It was a wonderfull day for me. I learnt a lot; managed to produce some interesting printouts. I felt like a child in a playground and found there inspiration for my little amateur projects. There was loads of tea, coffee, biscuits, a lovely cat and the most encouraging feedback from Liz! I highly recommend for those who want to learn new skills or just need a de-stressing therapy day!

Another wonderfully creative and inspiring day at the Slipper Studio. Liz is a warm hostess and a very experienced teacher. She seamlessly facilitates the day, with numerous high quality activities and makes a very safe space, where you have the confidence to experiment. All resources are well prepared and you are made to feel very treated. Especially with the delicious biscuits ! Thank you for giving me loads of new ideas and also lifting my soul.

A really lovely day. I learned some new techniques and really enjoyed the opportunity to get my creative juices flowing. Despite this being only a 1 day course I still came away with some pieces of work that I am really pleased with. Despite being a beginner to printmaking (indeed, not normally being a regular artist at all) I have been quite inspired by the workshop. I’ve come away thinking about how I can quite easily replicate some of the techniques at home and would like to work on some projects if my own. Thank you Liz for your warm hospitality and generous sharing of advice and techniques.

Had a great day. The welcome and atmosphere was very friendly and the workshop was very well laid out and comfortable to work in.
Liz empowered everyone to be creative adding good sound advice and tuition where necessary but didn’t overpower the learning process thus allowing each individual to create their own style. It was a fun day with a lot to learn.

I return to Liz’s workshops with great anticipation and delight: she shares generously her knowledge, she encourages and most valued of all, she fosters a sense of confidence in my own ideas that makes the day an entirely satisfying experience. The studio is immaculate and always inspiring any time of year: I think the views without and the serenity within are part of the delight.
This workshop was full of learning and fun, we had very good company and a clear sense of purpose and structure for the day.

Fabulous studio in a great location. The course was well structured with lots of opportunity to experiment, design and have fun. My husband and I attended the course together, I have a little printmaking experience he was a complete novice and Liz tailored her advice perfectly to meet both our needs.

We had a great day and would definitely return for further courses.

Liz's studio is really fabulous, and her courses are more than just a learning exercise, they make you feel relaxed, inspired and ready to create on your own afterwards. Expect excellent teaching and a real attention to detail from Liz. I've been on several courses run from the Slipper Studio and would say to anyone who is interested, don't hesitate, this is becoming a very popular venue!

A beautiful setting in which to work with materials and instructions delivered expertly. The small group of participants means that everyone has space to work and move freely between the two work rooms. Liz's preparation beforehand and perfect execution of the course results in an inspiring and positive environment.
As an absolute novice I felt encouraged and supported throughout the day and left inspired enough to seriously consider developing my skills further by purchasing tools and equipment to use at home.
The Slipper Studio offers the perfect environment for a relaxed yet intensive course of instruction and Liz and Andrew are the perfect hosts.
