Three-week course 7th, 14th & 21st October 2021 (Craft Courses just shows the start date)
10am-2pm on a THURSDAY
Six places maximum
Suitable for enthusiastic beginners and anyone wanting to extend their artistic art practise. Complete beginners may find Louise's Creative Drawing one-day workshop a useful pre-cursor to this course
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
You'll start each session with warm-up drawing exercises to loosen your drawing arm and body and tune in your hand-eye co-ordination before beginning a number of experiments and practise pieces drawing or painting directly from the life-model. You'll examine proportions and the nature of the human form using drawing paper, pen, charcoal and pencil working through a number of timed pieces from 30 seconds to 1 hour. In sessions two and three you'll have the chance to experiment with working with a brush in simple colour ranges or just black and white, playing with line, tone, form, weight and shadow.
NB: If we are unable to procure a model or if they are unable to attend last minute we will instead perform the same practise pieces using other life forms and natural shapes.
WHAT'S INCLUDED The session includes life-model, all materials and equipment (except brushes), tuition and venue hire. You'll have the use of stand-up easels or you can draw sitting down using a lightweight drawing board.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO BRING
Brushes are always best looked after by their owners - therefore please bring along one or two large brushes something like a number 8 long filbert or round and or a loose calligraphy brush (we'll work on quite a large scale so nothing too tiny). You’ll need to wear suitable clothing. An A4+ sketchbook is also useful but not essential. You will need to bring a hand towel and refreshments (drinking water is available in the studio).
NB: - a Lateral Flow Test must be taken at home before entering the studio
My studio is at The Queens Hall, Narberth, a charity events venue located in Pembrokeshire which welcomes a variety of events including art exhibitions and creative workshops. Low cost and well managed parking can be found around the back. Narberth also has a range of shopping places to explore including many delicious eateries.
Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
The session includes all materials and equipment except brushes (see description for more details).
3 weeks (10:00am to 2:00pm)

I've attended several of Louise's workshops and despite feeling rather nervous at tackling the human face I needn't have worried. I was amazed and delighted at what I achieved and this is all down to Louise's exceptional teaching skills. She has the gift of leading you through step by step from warm up exercises to end result in a way that is both instructional and encouraging, and really gets the best out of you. Louise's studio is a delightful space, filled with light and is a pleasure to work in. Her classes are never too crowded so you really feel you have individual attention when you need it. Thank you Louise, Im looking forward to signing up to your new programme!
Response from Louise Burdett Artist:Ah, thanks so much Su for your wonderful review. I can't wait to get back to teaching again and look forward to seeing you very soon. x
I found this workshop to be very enjoyable and satisfying. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly and the facilities were excellent. With Louise's tuition, demonstration, and encouragement I produced results that pleased and surprised me. I didn't hesitate to attend further workshops on creative drawing and life drawing, which again achieved better than expected results. I will certainly return once a new program of events becomes available.
Response from Louise Burdett Artist:Thank you James. Always a pleasure to teach you - I look forward to seeing you back as soon as we can work safely in the studio. Louise x
