About the Course
This one day Life Drawing course will use the figure and costume as a means of exploring compositional elements such as colour, pattern, shape and dynamics to produce exciting painting. The course is suitable for students with some experience of painting and drawing, including life drawing.
Who is this course for
The course is suitable for students with some experience of painting and drawing; including life drawing. Experienced students can have the opportunity to work with a clothed model for the day, and explore new areas.
What does this course cover
The course will use a clothed model to explore compositional elements such as colour, pattern, shape and dynamics to produce exciting drawings and paintings.
Short drawing exercises will be followed by focusing on painting a longer pose.
The course will draw on contextual references from historical and contemporary sources as inspiration towards using the clothed figure in a creative and challenging way.
The course will begin by looking at work by artists such as Balthus, Chantalle Joffe, Elizabeth Peyton, Sonia Delauney, Paula Rego and others, and will go on to use a range of media to arrive by the end of the day at a refreshing and lively destination.
What will it be like
The course will aim to be a fun day exploring the possibilities of colour, pattern, shape, rhythm to construct interesting figurative painting. There will be a wide variety of media available and we'll begin with quicker, exploratory work, aiming for each student to end the day with a finished piece and several supporting studies.
Tutor will give verbal, visual and contextual introduction to the topic. They will set clear and structured tasks, followed up with one to one support.
Teaching methods: Visual demonstration and verbal explanation. Written handouts with visual diagrams. One-to-one teaching. Group discussions
Learning methods: Hands-on practical activities, Reading handouts and following instructions.
One-to-one and group discussion.
How students are assessed: Questions and answers during group discussions and one-to-one teaching.
Record of students' progress and achievement on an assessment sheet as they achieve the course objectives. Practical work produced is evidence of learning.
