About the Course

Develop observational skills through the use of a life model. This is an intensive study of the human form. All abilities welcome. Beginners are guided through 6 week drawing course.

By the end of the course you will be able to
Analyse the proportions of the figure
Have an understanding of form, weight and anatomy
Observe to understand the pose and the composition
Work with a range of drawing and painting media
Use light and tone to create form
Mix colour
Take part in critiques and assessments of work
Class format and activities
You will draw from male and female models who are booked for 3 sessions at a time. You'll have the opportunity to work on both on short studies and a sustained pose over the 3 sessions. If you are a beginner, you'll be introduced to drawing the figure in charcoal, pencil/ graphite and line and wash and can choose to progress onto painting in acrylic, watercolour or oil. If you are a returning student, or come with experience, you can pursue personal projects working in your chosen media.

In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.

Entry requirements
Energy and enthusiasm and an interest in the human figure. Some drawing experience is helpful but not necessary (e.g. 'The drawing course: beginners or The painting course: beginners).

What you need to know before you enrol
This course takes place in the drawing and painting studio D11 which is on the first floor above the gallery and is accessible by stairs. There is no lift access.

What you will need for your class
The course fee does not include art materials, but these can be purchased from your tutor at cost price. Materials will be provided for the first session when guidance will be given by your tutor.
