About the Course
Modelling a Hominin (Paranthropus Robustus)
In this inspiring and captivating workshop Barry will introduce you to the exciting world of sculpture!
Modelling Paranthropus Robustus - early man and one of the Australopiths from the Pleistocene period. Robustus lived 2.5 - 2 million years ago.
This two day course will consist of modelling in clay on a pre-made armature a life-size portrait bust of this hominid.
Particular attention will be given to the construction of the ear.
There will be a bronze bust made by Barry Davies to copy under his guidance.
A complete explanation of the anatomy and how to model it will be given, also, a lecture on anthropology.
Students can take home their finished clay model.
Follow on workshops:
Future 3rd workshop will consist of carving a fossil out of a precast block of herculite photo attached with an introduction to Palaeontology. Get in touch for details.
Future 4th workshop will consist of modelling an anatomical study of the horse in plastiline with a lecture on anatomy and classical, renaissance and baroque sculpture. Get in touch for details.

Modelling tools will be supplied for use on the workshop days, students will need to purchase their own for personal use.
