About the Course
Content will include learning/practising the technique of ‘V’ incising letters in stone and slate, basic guidance on drawing and spacing letters, and the process offsetting out a brief inscription for carving. More experienced carvers may fine-tune carving, as required, and obtain input with drawn lettering and the design of inscriptions.
This letter carving course is suitable for all levels – including beginners!
You can turn any of our courses into a short break by staying in our on site accommodation. When you book a residential package you will get discounted accommodation in our stylish boutique hostel located in the centre of Cirencester in the Cotswolds right next door to New Brewery Arts. Our former 19th Century Cotswold stone brewery barrel store has been beautifully transformed into 21st century accommodation, light and well-appointed with a craftsman’s attention to detail. We offer guest accommodation for up to 43 people over two floors in 14 rooms, with a choice of single, bunk, family and double bedrooms, 12 with en-suite facilities. A ground floor disabled-friendly room is also available. The hostel provides a stylish communal dining and relaxation area, self-catering kitchen, laundry facilities and lockers for your bike. As with all our courses and workshops these are led by experienced tutors and as you will be part of a small group there is plenty of time to focus on you.

What's included in the price?
Stone/slate will be available for purchase on the course, but you are welcome to bring your own stone/slate. There will not, however, be facilities for cutting up stone. Welsh slate, greenslate ,York stone Portland stone are some of the recommended types for letter carving. Letter carving chisels,mallets, easels, goggles ,and masks will be provided for the course, but you can bring your own tools if you already have them.
You will have access to tea, coffee and biscuits in the studio and a £5 voucher to spend in our cafe is included!
