About the Course
Come and experience the absorbing and tactile world of Leather-work. Using traditional skills and techniques you will create your own unique item taking it from raw material to finished piece.
Tuition is delivered by Master Saddler and Leather Artisan Karen Ellis at her workshop in rural Aberdeenshire.
Workshops are run in small groups of around four, which allows for lots of individual attention, while providing a chance for shared inspiration and encouragement , and a great creative vibe!
About the course:
Suitable for beginners who would like an insight into the world of leather-working, and the more experienced crafter who is keen to try a new skill.
In our half day together you will;
- Choose from a beautiful selection the leathers to use in your project.
- Gain a basic understanding of, and practice using, various leather-working tools, such as knives, punches and edgers.
- Be introduced to working with templates and patterns.
- Measure, cut, dye and stamp leather.
- Choose and fit rivets.
Also where time allows, there will be the opportunity to try leather painting, thread dyeing and saddle stitching.
Project examples: “His and Her” fob and tassel keyrings, small card slip, cuff bracelet, basic belt, basic dog collar.
