About the Course

Leather axe and knife sheath making in Ecclesall Woods.

Ruth Pullan is a leatherworker based in Yorkshire who specialises in hand stitched leather work using British materials and traditional techniques. On this day long workshop you will make an axe sheath for your own axe and a knife sheath for a standard Mora style 106/120 carving knife. You will learn how to condition leather, how to finish the edges, how to stitch using two needles and how to set rivets among other techniques during the day. You will leave with a set of new skills which you can apply to your own projects at home and hopefully be able to make covers for your other tools in the future.

Refundable up to two weeks prior to course (minus £5 admin fee) No refunds for cancellations within two weeks of course.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. The voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

A very enjoyable and informative day. We used a variety of tools and fixings. The sheaths we made turned out very well and are useful. Ruth, the tutor, was very helpful and interesting.

Great course Ruth was a warm and friendly tutor. There was enough material, equipment and plain understandable tuition for us to follow and come away with two complete pieces of work and ideas to do more. I'm already planning what to do next. All of this plus a very pleasant surroundings to hold courses. A really nice days work.

Very enjoyable course in good surroundings. Ruth explained things clearly and at the end of the course I had completed the axe and knife sheaths, and was well on the way to making a 2nd axe sheath. Many thanks.
