This is a workshop designed to offer the best of both worlds – you will spend time learning how to use your camera effectively and then be able to put that into practice and discover how to get the best photographs from a location.
The morning will be spent in and out of the classroom to allow a blend of theory and practical application. You will find out which buttons and settings to use on your camera so that you can take control of the camera and create the type of photographs that you want, whilst honing these techniques in a hands-on way.
The afternoon will be spent putting these skills into action, whilst also discussing (and trying) a variety of methods designed to help you get the best pictures of whatever you are photographing.
Hare Hill Barn is set in a stunning landscape overlooking the Winster Valley with views to the southern Lakeland Fells and across to the Pennines and Morecambe Bay.
You will spend time looking at the elements of the surrounding area that combine to give it character and learn how to combine them to best effect. The idea behind the whole day is to give you the skills and knowledge that you will be able to use wherever and whenever you are taking photographs. The focus of the day will mostly be on landscape photography but the majority of your learning will be transferrable to almost all photographic styles. Whilst the basis of the day will be group learning, there will also be lots of opportunities for you to ask questions and to be given individual support.
Eric Pye loves being outdoors – he also likes to take his camera, look around the corner and sit awhile in quiet appreciation. There’s lots to appreciate! Not just the grand view or the dramatic panorama, but also the small details that knit together to make the fabric of the land; coloured lichen patterning the rocks in a stream, the spray of a waterfall, or the patchwork of light flitting over a hillside. These are the things that inspire him to use his camera in an attempt to tell the story of these places and times.
Eric was a primary school teacher for many years and now likes to put those skills to use helping people with their photography.
You will have a chance to explore Hare Hill Farm during the day so please bring outdoor clothing and footwear, and your camera.
