About the Course

In this 3 hour workshop you will learn how to make a lovely canvas tote bag with contrast handles and pocket.

This workshop is for beginners taking up a new hobby or those returning to sewing. If you have a machine sitting idle at home why not use it, it's great fun!

Encourage your friends to not use plastic bags - gift them a handmade canvas tote.

In a small group, you will learn how to:

- Cut the fabric pieces, from my pattern
- Sew in a straight line
- Neaten edges
- Top stitch
- Turn corners
- Trim seams
- Make a handle
- Make a pocket
- Make a square bag bottom

Relax in a quiet rural location and enjoy making this beautiful and very useful tote bag to take home with a pattern. You will want to make lots of these bags. No more plastic bags!

I have over 35 years experience sewing, from learning to sew as a child making dolls clothes, progressing to dressmaking, home furnishings (curtains and blinds), accessories, always to professional standards. I design and make my own patterns, and work as a freelance tutor. I hope you will come along and enjoy my workshops, where I am happy to pass on lots of information and tips.

I recently attended the "Canvas Tote Bag" workshop run by Judi.
The workshop was "very good", I really enjoyed it, and loved my new handmade bag.

Excellent Morning spent in a small friendly group, Judi helped me through the process and I came away with a lovely Tote bag and pattern. I have made another on my own at home and have fabric on order to make even more. I hope to attend further sessions in the future.

Response from Sew Make it:

Thank you Deborah, so pleased that you are making use of the pattern and making more! hope to see you again soon.

Great workshop, really enjoyed making the tote bag. Judi explains everything step by step making it very easy for a newbie sewer. We got the template and instructions to take home, so I will be making a lot more. Fabric is great quality, and the bags are very useful. Don't hesitate If you are considering doing this, its great fun!

Attended this course with Judi and thoroughly enjoyed it. I particularly liked the small group as this gave us all the individual help when we needed it. I love the finished bag and will definitely be using it and making more as gifts for my friends.
