Not having attempted spoon carving before it was good to learn some basic techniques to produce a number of items during the weekend. Loved the timber framed studio, good company of others on the course and the hospitality of Simon and his wife.

The description of the course exactly corresponds to the experience I had. Simon is subtly sensitive to the different ways in which people learn. I feel as though he has helped set me on a path to a whole new world of exploration and learning which will continue all my life. The course was a thoroughly positive experience.

Exactly what I had hoped for. A well guided practical course that focuses on safe technique and general principles for woodworking and tools. A good balance of instruction and freedom to practice. Simon is patient and easy going. I highly recommend the course.

Wonderful course! I did it with my husband, whose skills were far more advanced than my own. However, Simon managed to help us both to achieve far more than we thought possible. We are both now very motivated to do more, and have just ordered our first knives! Highly recommended.

Thoroughly enjoyed the course. Good guidance on how to safely use some very sharp knives. I was really surprised with the level of finesse and dexterity you can put in to using an axe. From raw material to finished article gives a satisfying feeling of achievement and confidence to continue using the learned skills in the future.
The techniques, tips and a better understanding of the nature of the green wood will remain with me. Worked in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere and I always felt that my progress was being considered in the pace of the course delivery.

I've had a fantastic two days learning how to carve green wood. I never realised how much you could do with an axe! Simons tuition us excellent, covering all the basics, lots of detail and a small group ensures lots of attention. The venue is lovely.... Straw bale building with green roof and cob chimney! Great hospitality, good food, would highly recommend this course. I've just bought my first carving knife!
