We made our wedding rings on Jonathon’s boat. What a lovely day! And a very romantic setting. Thank you Jonathon for a fantastic day, we can’t wait to show off our beautiful rings at our wedding.
Ashley Howl - - #16449
Response from J Kettle Jewellery - The Silver Jewellery Boat:Thank you Ashley - Well done with the ring making and good luck for the big day - remember to keep the speech nice and short :)
We have had the best time making each other’s wedding rings. Every last thing was perfect; the location, the tea, the whole experience nwas top notch. Jonathan’s expertise and calmness was a perfect balm in the middle of wedding-planning chaos. Seriously, I would recommend everyone makes their own wedding rings on this boat, you get to spend the day away from wedding madness and be calm and you get to make something with love for the person you love. I cried a little when I saw how much love and care he put into making mine, I will cherish it forever. The one I made for him is pretty amazing too!! We were both slightly nervous as we were complete beginners, but Jonathon made sure we felt supported and comfortable . He filled us both full of confidence and knew when to sit back and when to step in. We are delighted with our rings, they are unique and really high quality, I can not recommend this day enough and we will remember it always.
Jeszemma Garratt - - #16446
Response from J Kettle Jewellery - The Silver Jewellery Boat:Thank you Jaszemma
I am so pleased that you are happy with your rings and that you enjoyed the day making your wedding rings on the boat. It was great to see you working together and laughing. Thanks also for the tips - I have put them in the long term plan!
Best wishes for the big day. I'm sure it will be amazing.
This was arranged as a 21st present for my granddaughter, Kate, and we had a fabulous day. Jonathan’s instructions led us gradually to being able to create memorable pieces of jewellery. Regular infusions of coffe and cake also helped and the setting finished off a great day. This will definitely go on my present list for other members of my family - that means I can also have a go at another piece.
Shoena Jones - - #16432
Response from J Kettle Jewellery - The Silver Jewellery Boat:Thank you Shoena for your kind words

Great to meet you and well done with your silver jewellery making. It would be good to add those spinners to your ring some time!
I booked this workshop for my friend's special birthday and it was more than I was hoping for. We had a wonderful, calm day in Jonathan's beautiful boat and left with lovely bangles as a memento of a day to remember. A unique experience - you will not be disappointed. Thank you Jonathan.
jane bowering - - #16284
Response from J Kettle Jewellery - The Silver Jewellery Boat:Thank you Jane.
And well done with your jewellery making despite the hot weather and your long journey. It was a pleasure to meet you both.
We so enjoyed this day! Jonathan is patient and unflappable, which helped to settle my nervous teenage daughter.
(I've been meaning to pop a few lines down since our day in January. I'm so glad we did this and we might do another one soon!)
Mother Earth - - #16223
Response from J Kettle Jewellery - The Silver Jewellery Boat:Thank you very much for the kind words. It would be lovely to see you again on The Silver Jewellery Boat.
Great experience, thank you Jonathon.
Highly recommend the day and would love to do more. The lovely relaxing location made the day even more enjoyable and I still can't believe I came away with my own silver ring!
Mel Davies - - #16213
Response from J Kettle Jewellery - The Silver Jewellery Boat:Dear Mel. Thanks for your kind words. You did really well - despite your poorly arm, and it was a great day. Now get yourself a few tools and take them along with you on your travels!
Had a great day, Jonathan was very welcoming.
Marcelle and I both made pendants, I don’t think Marcelle has taken hers off since we got home.
The day was so much fun and the time just flew by, it’s safe to say I have a new hobby and the shopping list for tools and equipment was made that evening.
We will definitely be returning to make some rings next time.
P.s. I don’t write many reviews, service / experience has to be either dreadful or fantastic, congratulations Jonathan you and boat have topped the fantastic list.
Craig - - #16189
Response from J Kettle Jewellery - The Silver Jewellery Boat:Thank you Craig and Marcelle. I'm glad you enjoyed the day and I look forward to hearing more about your developing jewellery making skills.
Had a fab day and came away with a fantastic bangle! Eat your hearts out Pandora. Thank you Jonathan for providing lots of refreshments on a very hot day. Great day, very patient tutor. I really was a novice and have been able with assistance to bring home a bangle I am proud to wear. Jonathan introduced us to different techniques which we were able to practice before working with the silver.
Highly recommend, lovely location and the cakes were delicious.
Alison Ryder - - #15923
Response from J Kettle Jewellery - The Silver Jewellery Boat:Thanks for your kind words Alison. Well done with your new jewellery making skills and good luck with your future crafting plans.
An absolutely fabulous day out making silvery jewellery with the very patient and accommodating Jonathan Kettle. Superb and very impressive end products made in silver after a morning practising in copper and yummy carrot cake and tea all in beautiful surroundings on the canal in Droitwich. I would thoroughly recommend this course to everyone. Thanks Jonathan for a lovely day.
Michelle Wood - - #15869
Response from J Kettle Jewellery - The Silver Jewellery Boat:Thanks for the positive review and recommendation. It was a pleasure to meet you and your family - you all produced some beautiful silver jewellery and developed some new skills. Welcome back anytime!
Thanks, Jonathan @TheSilverJewelleryBoat
My daughter Hannah and I booked onto the course for Hannah’s birthday and had such a great day. Jonathan is friendly, welcoming and a very patient tutor. The boat is well equipped and comfortable- and Jonathan even moved it to a shadier spot in view of the recent hot spell. We had great fun working with the copper wire and trying out new techniques ready to start on our rings after lunch. We at both really pleased with what we achieved and inspired to try more.
A great find and one we would both recommend
Ann Goddard - - #15788
Response from J Kettle Jewellery - The Silver Jewellery Boat:Thank you Annie, it was a good day. Well done to both of you. I hope you both enjoy further jewellery making adventures!
This course was one of the best I have been on (and I am racking up a fair few craft courses now!) Jonathan was a great teacher for the day, and I really can't fault it.
By guiding us through the copper wire exercises we were able to confidently give the silver bangle making a go, which have turned out looking very professional. Friends and family have all been impressed when I have shown the final creation off.
What I think adds to the fun of this course is the brilliant setting of the canal boat. You can be inspired by nature whilst trying to concentrate on being creative!!
Laura - - #15575
I spent a marvellous few hours (it was a birthday treat) with my sister and niece making jewellery under the expert guidance of Jonathan. The location was perfect - peaceful, quirky, inspiring and fun (I want a narrow boat now!), and Jonathan was an excellent teacher - very good at explaining and showing us how to do things and very patient. (He also makes excellent coffee!). We started off making chains and charms with copper to get the feel of jewellery making and getting to understand the processes involved. After a break for coffee and cake we set about making silver bangles and it was great fun. We are all delighted with what we produced - it is very satisfying to make your own piece of jewellery. I would highly recommend this course.
Ros Kelson - - #15515
Response from J Kettle Jewellery - The Silver Jewellery Boat:Dear Ros, many thanks for your kind words! I think we all had a good day. I was very impressed with your texturing method and hope to use it myself in the future - inspired by the footprints of the local wildlife?
Good luck with your future jewellery making
My sister, my daughter and myself spent a wonderful day last Sunday on the silver jewellery boat (which is a great venue!). Jonathan was very patient and an excellent teacher. I really enjoyed learning how to make copper chains, links and charms before making a silver bangle (which I'm wearing as I type). We tried out several different skills and it was really interesting to understand the different processes that are gone through to get to the completed bangle.
The boat was moored in a pretty spot with a walk through trees and a wildflower meadow to reach it. We sat on the bank to eat our picnic and watched other boats, cyclists and walkers go past through the day. At one point a family of swans came visiting (four very young cygnets) and the adults tapped on the window.
I went away with a smile on my face and am very pleased with what I managed to produce. I would really recommend a day out on the silver jewellery boat. Many thanks Jonathan!
Veronica Grindley - - #15491
Response from J Kettle Jewellery - The Silver Jewellery Boat:Dear Veronica, thank you for your very kind and thoughtful words! It was a great day and you may be pleased to hear the cygnets are still thriving and whizzing about. I'm very pleased you are enjoying the jewellery and hope you might go on to make some more. Great to meet you and your family.
I went with 2 friends on Saturday and to say we had a good time is an understatement , we had an amazing time. Jonathan started us working with copper wire , making chains and jump rings , which ended up for me being turned into a bracelet and key ring. Whilst having tea and cake we chose what we wanted to make , all of us choosing different things. This wasn't a problem for Jonathan and he helped us all, guiding us to our beautiful finished jewellery . A wonderful way to spend the day learning a new skill thank you Jonathan
Tracey Parsons - - #15383
Response from J Kettle Jewellery - The Silver Jewellery Boat:Dear Tracey, Claude and Karen - it was a great day, I relished the challenge too! Hoping you are enjoying your jewellery and I wish you good luck in your future jewellery making.
Many thanks for your very kind words
Mum bought my day as a 19th Birthday present. I had a great time.
I made a silver ring which i really like and looks good. I now have a better idea on ring making and i can do some more at home.
Connor Godfrey - - #15249
Response from J Kettle Jewellery - The Silver Jewellery Boat:Hi Connor. Many thanks for the kind words! I hope you enjoy your future adventures - and maybe have a little time spare for some jewellery making - Well done!
My daughter and I had a lovely day on Saturday on the Silver Jewellery Boat. It is a cosy narrow boat moured on the canal in a lovely spot. Jonathan was a really good teacher and very encouraging as I have never handled tools of any kind before. We practised on copper to start with and then moved on to silver. We both produced a silver pendant which we were very pleased with. It was a really relaxed and friendly atmosphere with plenty of drinks and cake. I can thoroughly recommend the day. Thanks a lot.
Helen Bingham - - #14692
My sisters and I have just spent 2 brilliant days, as a complete beginners, aboard The Silver Jewellery Boat under Jonathan’s careful and encouraging tuition. We came away with a collection of copper and silver bracelets, rings and key rings that we were all thrilled with. The whole experience was SO relaxing. Not only is Jonathan a great teacher but he is a perfect host, providing regular soft drinks, tea, coffe, cake and biscuits! We enjoyed lunch, sitting in the sunshine alongside the canal watching the wildlife and listening to the birds. Look forward to returning and introducing family and friends to this amazingly inspiring and relaxing experience! Thank you Jonathan!
Lesina Ashfield - - #14485
What a fantastic experience making jewellery. My sisters and I had two days in the first few days of sunshine this year on Jonathan's boat making Copper and Silver jewellery pieces. He was a patient teacher and took us through the key skills prior to making our own. Coffee, Cake and juice was supplied to keep us going it was such a relaxing two days with the sun coming through the windows and lots of fresh air. We will definitely be coming back for more with our daughters later on in the summer.
Rowena Wright - - #14483
My sisters and I have just finished two days on the Silver Jewellery Boat with Jonathan and have a wonderful bangle and ring, of our own design, to show for it. We have had a brilliant time and can't recommend it enough as a fun, creative experience. We were complete beginners but Jonathan was a very patient teacher and supported us in producing some lovely peices of jewellery. It was a delightful setting on the canal. We will be back with friends and family. 😁
Bridget Moore - - #14482
So glad I heard about this course and could join my friend for a relaxed day of varied but well paced instruction from Jonathon into the basics of silversmithing techniques - from wire work to soldering and polishing. Would thoroughly recommend. So pleased with my silver pendant I am wearing as a reminder. Well equipped barge, moored in tranquil setting, but sensible footwear required to access after rain.
Stephanie Higgs - - #13977
It's hard to imagine a more beautiful and inspiring setting for this workshop aboard the silver jewellery boat! I have never attempted to make jewellery before but by the end of the day I had learnt how to make a gorgeous pair of silver earrings ... in addition to making chains and celtic swirls. One to one tuition and plenty of encouragement made this a great day ... highly recommended.
Julie McCoy - - #13868
My children bought me the course for a special birthday present. My friend joined me on the course and we both had a great day. We came home very proud of our achievements. Thank you to Johnathan for your encouragement, instructions and help with our creations, also for the hot cross buns and drinks.
Beryl Buckley - - #13828
I booked with Jonathan as a refresher course, having done some silversmithing some years ago and lost confidence through lack of practice. I couldn't have wished for a better day! He was patient, good humoured, and encouraging, helping me punch out silver shapes, texture and shape them and solder them into earrings. Altogether, the day was so relaxed and inspiring, I can't wait to get started in my own studio. I would highly recommend a day on the Silver Jewllery Boat to anyone interested in silverworking.
Yoke Lunn - - #13717
What a lovely day on the jewellery boat. We made some copper rings as chains to practise then moved onto silver.
Jonathan was a great host and teacher. With buttery tea cakes and a cosy wood toning stove. The perfect day.
Charlotte cline - - #13216
A truly memorable day aboard the silver jewellery boat. Jonathan is an excellent teacher and is flexible with the learning. I needed to perfect my soldering skills and we did that and more. The boat is an extra bonus and in a beautiful setting. Would thoroughly recommend the craft course as a gift and a participant...and there is cake.
Liza Bewick - - #13058
We have all thoroughly enjoyed the day with Jonathan on his boat.
All of us have managed to walk away with a finished piece (or almost finished in Dave’ Case) and are very proud of our efforts.
Thank you, Jonathan, You have inspired us to continue to learn more about silversmithing.
Olga, Dave, Ann & Ray - - #12960
An excellent course. Chain making, shaping copper wire, soldering, filing, polishing. Building skills to create your own piece of jewellery to treasure. Jonathan is a passionate about the craft, a patient tutor and a hospitable host. A unique experience. A fabulous day, highly recommended!
Lou - - #12451
What a lovely way to spend a rainy day, tucked away on a cosy barge sat by the log burner making jewellery. Jonathan has a wealth of knowledge about jewellery techniques and we spent an enjoyable time learning some of these before starting our chosen silver piece. I chose to make a bangle and I really enjoyed customising it to make it all the more special. This is such a unique experience and I highly recommend this course.
Carla Jones - - #12448
We spent the day with Jonathan on the boat and loved every minute. We learnt so much and had lots of fun as well.
The setting was beautiful and the drinks and cake were delicious. We all made gorgeous bracelets which Jonathan made sure we were happy with. It was the perfect birthday present!

Karen Riley - - #11956
We had a lovely day learning to make rings in a lovely setting. Jonathan was very helpful and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend!
Sophie - - #11182
What a lovely way to spend a day and what a venue. Very clever place to have a cosy workshop. Started off with simple chain making skills and then some copper work. Lunch was spent in the sun on canal side before getting on with making our bangles. I'm wearing mine with great pride! Several mugs of tea and luscious cake thrown in for good measure. Thank you Jonathan, you are a great teacher with magnificent patience, luckily for us!! Would recommend this course time and time again and have done.
Sooz Gilson - - #11136
We spent a very enjoyable day in July making a bangle. The boat is well set up and Jonathan is a teacher by profession which shows. Usually reasonably good with crafts, I proved to be very ham-fisted on this day but Jonathan was patient and encouraging. Ended up with a lovely bangle which has been much admired and which I still find myself looking at with some amazement. Would recommend this course for anyone wanting to try working with silver for the first time.
Sharon - - #10212
What a wonderful day! Calm, relaxing environment and excellent tuition. We were made to feel at ease with as much practice as we wanted with copper wire and sheets before moving on to silver. We learnt how to cut, smooth and polish the silver and ended up with a pair of stud earrings, which everyone has admired. I would thoroughly recommend this course and will certainly be going back again. The homemade cake was delicious and a lovely touch.
Deborah Perryer - - #10122
Thank you to Jonathan for helping myself and two friends celebrate a birthday! We spent a most enjoyable day learning to bend, mark, cut, file and polish copper and silver. Amongst the chatter, laughter and cake we managed to create unique, personal bangles, and memories to mark a special occasion. This was certainly a Jewel of a find and to be thoroughly recommended.
Judith Bicknell - - #10060
I enjoyed a day on The Jewellery Boat making two different types of rings. I hadn't make any jewellery like this before but found the teaching to be excellent as Jonathan took us through the various techniques in a calm, pleasant, and easy to understand way. I came away not only with my two rings which I made under Jonathan's watchful eye but also with a practical knowledge of working with wire (copper and silver), shaping, filing, sawing, soldering, polishing - and lots more. Great cake and lots of refreshments made the day on the Narrowboat a lovely experience - thank you Jonathan!
Sally - - #9606
I spent a lovely day last Saturday attending the ring making course where I made various different rings along with learning new techniques. In my opinion this course was worth every penny to spend the day in a very beautiful tranquil and relaxing setting and is suitable for people of any age and ability.
Carol - - #9571
Jonathan provided an excellent introduction into the basics of silversmithing - with the guide of an enthusiastic and encouraging teacher, I was able to make a beautiful silver ring. Thank you for a brilliant experience, one that is enough to inspire anyone (even my partner, who didn't attend, who has arrived home with just about everything we need to set up a silversmithing workbench!). Highly recommended course :)
Jesi Leigh - - #9553
Oh my word, this course and Jonathan are amazing. Not only did I make a couple of beautiful rings, I also learnt skills that I can carry on for future jewellery making projects. I would 100% reccomend the jewellery boat to absolutely anyone and I'll definitely be booking more courses!
Alice - - #9435
Great day, great ring and bangle and great cake! Thank you!
Eleanor Wynn - - #9263
Perfect teaching, perfect cake and coffee, perfect setting and now a perfect bangle! Highly recommended for a personal and relaxed course. Many thanks Jonathan.
Tracey Wynn - - #9262
Just spent a beautiful day making my lovely Bracelet. The location was lovely and strolling past the wildflowers to the boat was dreamy. The trickling water with the sun glinting off the wavelets was very beautiful and serene. John himself is a natural teacher, patient, good-humoured and charming. I would highly recommend this enjoyable and creative class. Did I mention there was cake too? Perfection!
Gilli Bryan - - #9165
Spent a lovly sunny day on the boat today using pmc to make a beautiful charm to add to an existing charm braclet I had commisioned from the website a few years ago, its a ' pea in the pod' unspired charm. Great day, I learnt lots of new skills and have a well finished product to go home with. Thanks again10/10
Katie - - #9018
This is a terrific course. I went with my daughter and we learned how to work with copper wire (so that we could gain confidence with the tools) and then silver wire to make our first ring. This was followed by making a silver band ring. Jonathan is an excellent teacher and host; providing excellent tuition (and lovely cake too!). To make the day even more memorable, the setting is idyllic too.
Sasha - - #8850
Wow what can I say but recommend this to everyone. I did the ring making course with my daughter as a birthday treat. It was perfect from start to finish. Learning to work with wire initially. Soldering, polishing, filing, measuring all wonderfully explained and demonstrated. Fabulous location, delicious cake and refreshments and ending up with a beautiful ring. A blissfully relaxing day .... Thank you Jonathan X
Claire Hawker - - #8618
Had a truly amazing day in this course. Everything was so calm, hands on and fun. Jonathan, who run the day, could not do enough to help and make it a lovely experience. I have come away with lots of skills and two fabulous rings!! Thank you :)
Phillippa - - #8616
I couldn't recommend this course any more! It was a really lovely day, stress free relaxed and made some wonderful rings. Very excited to get on with the new least skills and start creating my own!
Jessica Roberts - - #8517
Three of us booked on to the course with different skill levels and we all enjoyed learning how to make a silver ring. We practiced cutting and soldering, we had help with polishing. The atmosphere on the boat was relaxed and we all felt encouraged to give it a go. There was even homemade cake! I have recommended the course to friends of mine - some are going to make their wedding rings. I would like to return to make a bangle next time. Thanks!
