About the Course
Ever wished you could throw pots successfully at the potter's wheel? Well, now you can! I am a qualified ceramicist with over 20 years' experience of throwing clay pots and producing all manner of fine art made in clay. There is nothing as soothing or as therapeutic as sitting at the potter's wheel and throwing pots. This course will give you a head start on some of the essential techniques required to produce your very own first pot, of your own design. If you already have some experience or advanced knowledge of throwing you will be able to extend your pot throwing skills even further by attending this course. Come along with a friend or purchase a gift voucher for a friend or family member and at last give a gift that really does thrill and ignite the imagination!
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. The voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
Included in the price is a free lunch of cheese, biscuits and fruit or feel free to bring your own packed lunch. There is also an inexhaustible supply of coffee, tea, water and biscuits. There are no hidden charges -everything required for a fulfilling and memorable pot throwing experience is included in the price. That includes, tools, use of the potter's wheel, apron, clay, tuition etc. At the end of your day, if you have a pot you'd like to keep you may leave it to be fired in my kiln and come and collect it when it's ready or I can send it on to you at a small charge of around £12. I guarantee that there will be a maximum of only 3 people on the course at the same time as you because I like to maximise the amount of personal tuition you receive and the amount of time you spend on the potter's wheel. This course is highly interactive, fun and you will learn lots!
We thoroughly enjoyed our day with Richard, it was very therapeutic doing something completely different from our day jobs. Richard was incredibly patient with our attempts on the wheel and we were pleased to create something usable! We have no hesitation in recommending this course.

We had so much fun! I really can't recommend this enough – Richard is a brilliant teacher and fantastic company too. And coffee and lunch were both top notch (v important). It was a perfect birthday present and I'm sure we'll be buying vouchers for friends and family for years to come. We came away feeling enthused and inspired – and can't wait to get our hands on some more clay. Thanks Richard!

Richard is a highly skilled, patient and fun teacher, and as a beginner, I would highly recommend this course to learn or even improve on throwing pots! I really enjoyed the experience and would definitely go again!

I recently took part in the pottery course, with Richard an excellent teacher. He was so patient, as a first timer throwing pots is not as easy as it may look, but within a couple of goes we all had usable pots! Fantastic! You would think having the lesson with 3 newbies would be a nightmare but it was taken in his stride, with all of us having a joyful and memorable lesson.
Definitely highly recommend, will be attending again!
