About the Course

Do you fancy a creative day out at our studio, based at the idyllic setting of Riverside Organic farm? We are situated in a very old barn, on a beautiful working organic farm in the middle of Cheshire countryside. Situated approx 8 miles from J18 of the M6.

Make your own glass art with float glass, fired over a mould you will make in our studio.
A really great course for beginners & those with some experience and interest of fused glass and/or ceramics. This is a unique cross over of the two applications, touching on sculpting clay, making moulds and slumping glass. We look to provide a relaxing environment for a great day out and an intimate group of a maximum of 4 people per day course.
The final piece you create will be a professional looking artwork of your design - this could be a tea light holder, platter, wall hanging - the only limitation is your imagination!
We have a selection of sizes and shapes you can choose from (previous course attendees have created 40cmx20cm - 60cmx40cm pieces)

This full day (11.00 - approx 4.00) course is led by Julie Mathews and assisted by Jessica Jones.
Julie has a BA Hons in Applied Arts, specialising in Glass but with a passion for ceramics.

Your day will begin with an arrival Tea or Coffee from the organic cafe on sight and an introduction of Health & Safety. Julie will then share her extensive knowledge of the materials we will use throughout the day and the techniques we use to achieve the final piece of art.

The main body of the course will be:
- Designing your glass art within the constraints of the materials being used
- Re-creating your design as a clay template.
- Mixing and pouring plaster to make a negative impression of your design
- Finish and prepare mould for the kiln.

You will leave your mould with us to dry fully, then we will fire your glass art ready for collection the following week (for long distance attendees we can always forward final artwork by post for an additional cost).

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.

Want to review this course?

For me, who is not overly artistic, this is an ideal course, with help at hand if needed, and a nice steady progress through the processes, the finished result of my glass panel is very accomplished and has stirred my interest to do more of the same.
Thank you both for making my day thoroughly enjoyable and with a first class course, plus a very tasty lunch and afternoon cake and tea in the farm cafe.
I wish you every success and good luck.

This was a an excellent course 😀 Great value for money with great support from two very friendly talented young women. So good that I am going back for another day later in the year 👍. The food in the small farm cafe was great too and all included in the price of the course!
Brilliant day
