Kiln Carving - Kiln Formed Glass Workshop
Contact course provider
About the Course
Kiln Carving is essentially Bas relieve in glass please see main image of simple examples.
Suitable for beginners. Teens welcome.
In this session, you will use fiber paper to create a mold in which to fire the glass. The Fibre paper becomes a template for the glass to form into and around. The glass is heated in the kiln and takes the shape of the fiber paper design you create.
I tend to use float glass for these Kiln Carving sessions in various sizes.
You could make one larger piece or several little pieces. Hanging decorations are popular, along with coasters and jewellery.
These designs can be simple or more intricate - the choice is yours.
We often stop for a quick break midway - I have light refreshments available - please do advise of any dietary requirements at the time of booking.
Once your work is fired, I then clean and fettle it before you can come to collect it. I aim to turn work around with in two weeks.
I can post if required for additional costs to cover packaging and postage.
Any questions please do get in touch with me using the clickable buttons at the top of this page.
I like to start my sessions promptly as there is a lot of information to share with you. If you are running late - please do let me know.

Went to an intro class and made a pendant, then returned to do the kiln carving. Naomi is fun, relaxed and friendly. We got loads done in the time - I finished 2 pieces. I really love this method, it has given me a very interesting pair of glass ornaments to put in my windows! Would recommend for a nice absorbing few hours, but it is best if you go along with some ideas before you start.

This is an excellent introduction to kiln carving and glass with inclusions and allows for the development of these skills. It’s always a happy working environment with lots of help and encouragement. The materials are excellent with a wide variety of Frits to work with. A most enjoyable and interesting experience
