About the Course
The aim of this course is to give anyone new to portraiture a good foundation in the principles of creating a likeness, through an understanding of head construction, positioning of features and effective use of colour. You will learn how a good use of tone can bring reality and structure to your work; essential to successful portrait painting.
This course is suitable for beginners in portrait painting, but with some drawing ability. If you already paint portraits, you will have plenty to learn from Keith, whether it be, drawing tips, his use of colour or his economy of brush strokes and effortless style. Having two full days in which to immerse yourself, you will be able to paint multiple pictures from different reference photos and really move on in your portrait work.
About the Artist
Keith’s art education was gained during four years at Hornsey College of Art. He is an enthusiastic tutor and believes that good observation leads to good paintings. He now tutors Portraiture, Still Life and Life workshops, demonstrates Still Life and Portraiture to art societies, undertakes commissions, and paints people he admires. To date, his most famous sitters have been the jazz pianist and composer Stan Tracey OBE and the actress Siobhan Redmond. Keith has been short-listed for The Garrick Milne Prize, exhibited with The Discerning Eye (2008, 2009), The Royal Society of Portrait Painters (2003, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011) and The ROI (2010, 2012, 2013).
