After a successful run of online Junk Journal workshops while we couldn't meet in person, The Arienas Collective Artists - Bookbinder Cass Barron and Artist Lou Davis are teaming up for an in-person version of this colourful and creative celebration of colour, texture, mark making and bookbinding!
We will begin the day with a gelatin printing session, which will include instructions on how to make your own gelatin printing plate, with lots of ideas on how to combine it with homemade stencils and use found objects to create unusual and stunning shapes and textures onto paper. Lou will also share her tips on how to get the most out of a limited colour pallete, and give you some guidance on colour mixing and composition.
Once you have created a series of prints onto different papers, envelopes and pre-loved materials such as old maps and book pages, Cass will show you how to transform these into a colourful A5 Journal with hard-cover, exposed spine and decorative cross stitch binding.
At the end of the workshop you’ll have a wide range of mark-making techniques under your belt that can be applied to everything from bookbinding and card making, to printing your own wrapping paper. You’ll also be equipped with the skills to make eye-catching, colourful books that make great personal journals and unique gifts for birthdays, Christmas and other celebrations.
As there is a bit of drying time required and we don't want to rush your creativity - following the workshop, you will be given access to a video series that shares how to stitch and add finishing touches to your book that you can work through at home, the added bonus of this being that you can revisit these videos for a reminder of the stitch should you want to make more of these books in the future.
Refunds are not available on this booking. Start dates may be amended on request.
All materials will be provided along with tea and coffee to fuel your creativity, with the option to bring your own lunch or purchase from one of the many cafes/shops nearby.
