Journalling the countryside

X

Description

Join artist/bookbinder Cass Barron and artist/writer Julie Galante for this two-day countryside journalling retreat that invites you to slow down - to look, listen, reflect, and create - as you are inspired by the stunning natural surroundings At Birkhill House.

Together we'll experiment with a range of bookbinding and journalling techniques, using handmade journals we have made and a range of wet and dry media, as we explore the woodlands, fields and country lanes nearby.

This workshop will equip you with a range of bookbinding/sketching/writing approaches that you can revisit and apply in different contexts to give yourself some creative time to reflect and recharge whenever you need it.

Most importantly this will be a safe space to play and experiment, perhaps with art materials and techniques you haven't used before, or have been curious about but need some gentle encouragement to try.

Cass and Julie will be on hand to give you ideas, share their journalling practices and set you creative assignments that we will reflect on together over a locally-made lunch.

As a small holding, At Birkhill House offers plenty of inspiration, be it the herd of resident alpacas in the rolling fields, the secluded woodland or the hilltop views. Cass and Julie can’t wait to get creative with you and share their passion for bookbinding and journalling in this special place.

No previous bookbinding experience is necessary and you don't have to have done any journalling (or sketching) to take part. The focus will be on exploring creativity and mark making in all its many forms and finding a fit that works for you.

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 4 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
