About the Course

Soldering is an essential but challenging skill in jewellery making. Improve your skills and learn how to pick, stick feed and sweat solder with structured exercises while completing a piece of jewellery. For students with some experience of jewellery making.

By the end of the course you will be able to
Master several soldering techniques and know when they should be applied
Have an in-depth knowledge of the soldering process
Create several sample pieces using the different soldering processes
Class format and activities
On the first day we will discuss the soldering process, the use of flux and anti-flux and binding wire. We will then practice various techniques on base metal: melting, pallion, pick feeding, stick feeding and sweat soldering. On the second day we will use all of these techniques to make a decorative sphere from copper and brass. You will also gain confidence in using a jewellery torch, the different flames and learn how to use different pieces of soldering equipment.

In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular and detailed feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment
