Jewellery, Silver Clay (One-Day)
Tutor: Melanie Blaikie
Come and make presents for your friends and family, and relax and have fun at the same time! Silver clay is an amazing new art material (99% silver) that makes it possible for everyone to make real silver jewellery without the need for traditional tools or previous experience.
We will begin with a demonstration of how to handle and work with the clay, showing you how to plan and execute your designs. We will cover cutting and texturing, stamping and shaping to create different forms and finishes. The price includes enough silver clay to make two or three finished pieces.
Your finished pieces will be fired and polished and you will then be able to make them up into a variety of finished items. All equipment and tools will be provided.
Enough clay for two or three small items is included in the fee, worth about £20, but you can buy more from Melanie on the day if you want to make chunkier jewellery.
A selection of silver ear wires, necklace chains etc. priced from £1.50, will be available to purchase to complete your creations.
Home made lunch, biscuits and cakes will be included in the fee.
What to Bring
Warm clothing and footwear as you will be sitting still all day and, as there is no tarmac here at Assington Mill, you will not feel comfortable in high-heeled shoes.
Some idea of what you would like to design. A small template might be useful.
Assington Mill is a 70 acre organic farm in a beautiful secluded hidden valley in Suffolk. We aim to provide a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, where you will enjoy the experience of spending time with like-minded people and learning something new and life-enriching. Around fifty-five different short courses in rural and traditional craft skills are run here each year.
We aim to provide healthy meals during our courses made from locally-sourced organic ingredients, where possible. Lunches usually consist of soup and salads. Almost all the ingredients, if they are not grown here, come from Assington Farmshop, and are organic if possible. Cakes and biscuits are also home-made. We specialise in gluten-free food and are happy to cater for any other dietary requirements if you give us notice on the booking form.
Accommodation is available at many BnBs in the area (please see the list on our website) or you could stay in Mill Cottage on site. Alternatively, Camping is also possible at Assington Mill for £5 per night, anywhere on the farm. There is a toilet and shower available in a wetroom; plus a kitchen with two hobs and urn. We are not a proper camp site; this is just a facility for people coming on the courses.
Assington Mill is half a mile from the nearest bus stop or 3 miles from Bures train station if you wish to travel by public transport.
