About the Course

The workshop is held at Pontypool Museum, with full disabled access and parking facilities onsite; the course lasts 3 hours from 12.30pm until 3.30pm.

The student will gain an insight and the confidence to make a range of jewellery findings that can be used in a wide range of jewellery designs and styles, the aim is to inspire the student to be creative at home and in the workshop. The workshop will cover the following:

1) Earring wires
2) Jump rings
3) Wire cones
4) Wire coils
5) Wire cages
6) Head pin wires
7) Toggle clasp
8) Wire coils
9) Hook and eye clasp

The session is aimed at someone that has an interest in jewellery making or wishes to build on an existing skills base. The student will use a range of hand tools and specialist jewellery making equipment, this will provide a background on which the student can develop further. They will work with a range of wires so as to develop the knowledge of what is the most suitable material to use for a given task.

On completion of the session the student will have an excellent understanding of basic finding design and style and leave with a few pieces made from 99% pure silver filled copper.

There are only 3 spaces on every course as this allows for maximum opportunity to develop the skills and engage with the trainer.

The Trainer is an experienced jewellery maker and trainer, he has worked for a number of organisations within Wales delivering training on a range of subjects, including IT and Health and safety. He focuses on his interest area which is jewellery making and provides a range of specialist sessions on jewellery making including, silversmithing for beginners.

What's included in the price?

The venue is fully served and has parking and disabled access, the student will have access to free refreshments throughout the training session. The cost of the course includes all materials and free supply of a small tool kit and wire to enable the student to gain more practical experience after the course has finished.
