Work through both technical and conceptual possibilities to explore image as a 3D object in your work. We will explore how you can craft narrative and concept from a 2D image into a 3D object while following the theme of Past, Present, Place and Person.
Refunds are not available on this booking. Start dates may be amended on request.
Jewellery, weighted with attachments and meanings, forms a record of time, place, memory & relationships. You will start by working from images you have chosen to bring which relate to the theme of 'Past, Present, Place and Person’.
Following a brief presentation and group discussion exploring the story behind the images you have chosen, you will create a collage, mood board or diorama with your images as a starting point. Only bring copies of images with which you can cut and paste.
To further extend the power of your own imagination, you will be fracturing the narrative to determine an alternative narrative, with an analysis of how this outcome is determined from a personal perspective. You might like to make it somewhat autobiographical by putting yourself in the picture, or you could explore the role a particular person has played in your story.
Open your mind, be creative and playful, and use the materials and images you bring with you to expand your story as a starting point for your 3D end piece that illustrates or represents moments from your story in some way.
Once your narrative has been determined, we will move on to crafting it in 3D form, utilising an image with an assemblage of objects, stones or readymades to convey meaning. You can be as playful, and obscure as you like. It does not have to be a literal representation! You will be assisted in using various techniques by the tutor, who will show you examples of how other jewellers have combined images and components in creative ways, not necessarily by conventional means!
This will be a class that treats jewellery as art, and although some traditional jewellery-making skills will be taught, you may well end up creating a piece made entirely from ready-mades, or attach your precious components with bound wire!,
