About the Course
Extend your beading and knotting skills by planning out and making a multi-strand beaded necklace and a beaded tassel. Understand when and how to use a variety of threads and findings to achieve a professional finish. Intermediate Level.
By the end of the course you will be able to
Complete a multistrand necklace, understanding graduation of strands
Create a beaded tassel
Have a greater understanding of findings available and when to use them
Understand how to use different threads and cords
Class format and activities
After looking at and discussing examples and samples, the tutor will demonstrate techniques
required to create a multi-stranded necklace with graduation, as well as a beaded tassel.
You will then produce practice pieces of jewellery using the materials provided to become
familiar with the techniques.
During the course there will be ongoing discussions and examples on beading techniques,
the appropriate threads & findings to use.
In the afternoons you will continue to practice with your own designs and work through any
problems and questions with help from the tutor.
There will be an emphasis on sharing knowledge and experience, through discussion, show
and tell and group crit. The tutor will facilitate group discussions and work with the students
one-to-one and in groups.
In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.
No previous experience of jewellery making is necessary. Enthusiasm is an asset!.
What you need to know before you enrol
This is a practical course and will require hand skills for working threads and knotting
What you will need for your class
All tools and basic materials are provided for the course. You may want to bring:
• Any loose beads or collections of drilled stones and beads that you may have to use in
your own design.
• a notebook, a pen, and a fabric tape measure.
• If you have a ‘bead board’ do bring it with you
What you can do next
The course provides an excellent start to jewellery making or a refresher or taster of new
