What you need to know before you enrol
Jewellery making is craft process and as such it does involve occasionally getting your hands dirty. The Jewellery making studio is on the top floor of the building, but it does have lift access. You need a moderate level of manual dexterity to complete some of the activities. Some activities like hammering and forging are physical and may leave you with a sore arm in the morning, but just as many are low impact and are conducted seated at a workbench. Some chemicals used may be harmful in pregnancy. Please let the tutor know if you are pregnant and they will advise you as to necessary precautions.

What you will need for your class
The workshop is fully stocked with all of the equipment a beginner might need. If you are already familiar with jewellery making then you may bring any of your own tools with the exception of chemicals and electrical items.
In general it is good to bring a sketchbook and pencils, as well as a box or container to transport your on-going jewellery work in.
The course provides some materials free as part of the course content. This includes copper, brass, and acrylic sheets as well as many of the chemicals, enamels, and other materials that a jeweller may require. Silver and other precious metals are not provided free of charge. For beginners silver can be purchased from the tutor at cost price in the form of wire and sheet depending on the project. Students who are already experienced will be instructed on how to purchase any materials that they might need.
